Almost Half of Americans Expect Terrorist Attack in 2006
Still, few are "very worried" they will be victims

PRINCETON, NJ -- Almost half of all American adults, 45%, believe it is likely the United States will suffer a terrorist attack in 2006, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey, conducted Dec. 16-18. A bare majority, 51%, thinks such an attack is unlikely.

Just your best guess, do you think it is likely -- or unlikely -- that there will be a major terrorist attack in the United States in 2006?

1. Well how is that breakdown for
members of Al Qaeda or BFEE death squads? I think my opinion that there will be disastrous hurricanes next year is more substantive than how my opinion relates to the likelihood of terrorist attacks.

On the other hand, if asked whether i thought terrorist attacks were more likely to succeed because of Bush policies or take place because of Bush policies- now that would be something important to measure and easy to answer.

2. Blatant fear-mongering from Gallup...why am I not surprised?

The headline is bass-ackwards.

51% think such an attack unlikely...so if there's a story here at all, the headling should be: Over Half of All Americans Think Terrorist Attack Unlikely in 2006

Not much of a story though, is it? Neither is the one they generated.
