Right Wing Radio AXED in OKC. Oh Happy Day!!!
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 10:40 AM by Mortos
WKY radio 930 in Oklahoma City just revamped their entire lineup and fired every single right wing talking head they had (which was their entire lineup).

They dumped the entire format. Right wing local whackos from morning til nite. Bush supporting, liberal hating, wrapped in the flag propogandists all fired. Jim Traber's "The Truth", Mark Shannon's vitriolic racist homophobic hate radio, Dax Davis's ignorant right wing yes man, and Ron Black's faux angry tirades are gone. Fired in the middle of the night. Replaced by, get this, Spanish music.

OH MY GOD, THIS IS RICH.

I guess the bragging and cocksure attitude of the right wing is in trouble if a group of conservative con men can't make it in the red state of Oklahoma.

Enjoy Bush's robust economy you right wing whackjobs. Tell us all again how the economy is run by the big corporations and they must make decisions based on the bottom line. Just like you did when GM shut down. Who you gonna blame this time? The Unions? The liberals? Howard Dean? I know, Mexicans.

How about accepting the responsibility for your own failures. You couldn't sell Dasani in hell if you can't get a bunch of redneck right wing okies to tune in. Tell me again how liberal radio just isn't commercially feasible and no one wants to listen to it.

Let me check. Yep, Air America is still pluggin away, oh and they have added their programming to some new stations around the country. Hmmmm!

In closing I would like to give a big fuck you to Jim Traber. I hope your rich wife doesn't ever leave you or it's back to the studio apartment and selling your old balls on ebay.

Am I having a great day or what?????

If you would like to leave a message of condolence for the right wing posse from WKY, please go to www.jimtraber.com

5. I know from whence I speak... that's a good feeling!
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 10:20 AM by Radio_Lady
I was part of several liberal talk show formats in my time. They got axed for all-news at one point. Then, they were sports for a while. I continued to provide radio entertainment and book reviews, and then I ended up in a sales career for a bunch of years. Arguing with people on the telephone did a number on me and I'm glad I stopped out for a while! Now I volunteer with an audio service of the local PBS station -- a couple of hours a week of talk conversation and no call-ins. I'm enjoying it!

Conservative talk formats will be a passing fancy -- but you may have to wait a while!

In peace,

Radio_Lady (more than three decades in radio and TV -- maybe I should write a book!)

Priceless!

My parents grew up in Oklahoma and we traveled to visit grandparents there every year.

My sister and I referred to it alternately as the State of the Blue Haired Ladies -or- The State that Time Forgot (because Okla was always about a decade behind the times in terms of style, etc when I was a kid.)

Congrats! :toast:

Now if y'all could just do something about all of the Fundie broadcasts that you export to other states? ;)

13. Probably
Mark Shannon was hot shit in the 80's as sort of a Howard Stern lite. Then he got all political and got fired. He traveled all over the country with his mean spirited schtick and then returned to Oklahoma to be Rush lite. Now he is looking for work again. I hope he finds it, under a bridge.

31. There's a spot on I-40 ...

The Morgan Rd. exit ramp is popular, and I hear the bridge there makes a fine roof. The only problem would be he'd probably have a bit of explaining to do with the Mexican laborers who work the construction there in all weather while his happy ass was sitting in a chair, in an air-conditioned building, blathering on about how worthless they all are.

Let's see...they have jobs, and now he doesn't.

Oh, I know I'm rambling on and on, and I feel a bit icky enjoying someone else's misery, but that man deserves it if anyone does. The racist bile that flew from that moron's mouth was/is horrendous.

Oh the irony of these fatheads bashing Spanish speaking people time and time again and then getting fired for the more profitable Spanish music format.

12. And the balance is maintained...
In a move to squash free speech in the Valley of the Sun, the owners of KXXT 1010 has announced that it has sold the station for $20M to Communicom Broadcasting, Communicom operates religious radio stations. Their only other current station is religious WLNO/New Orleans.
The change in format, if it happens at all will take place in Jan. once the deal is done.

The right wing psychophants are going crazy with sadness. Some are proposing a boycott of the advertisers, one wants to protest at the station. Schadenfreude, my old friend.

23. If they protest at the station
how many will show up? It seems that when the neocons try to show strength by picketing, about five or six of them show up. Remember the counter rally in DC put on by Free Republic last year to counter the HUGE anti-war protests? What was there, about one hundred people or so? They can't stay organized long enough to do anything that may make a difference.

32. I doubt the advertisers would care ...

The place where I work was supposed to be targeted with a boycott because of how friendly we've become to Spanish speaking residents. It never materialized, in part because the people they were trying to pressure told them flat out that they made more money from Spanish speaking people than they did from ignorant, racist people.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. :woohoo: (No sarcasm intended!)

I hate what's happened to OKC radio--we had some of the best stations in the nation back in the 60s. WKY was so good--Danny Williams, Ronny Kaye--wasn't Dale Wehba on there, or was it KOMA?

Me, I've pretty much given up on broadcast radio--I mainly listen to XM.

How many Spanish stations do we have now in OKC? I knew of 2 before this, but there's probably more.

28. No you only have about another 100 stations to get rid of in OK, as I
recall from driving from Kansas to Texas 2 weeks ago.

I can just start picking up AAR in Dallas when I get a bit south of OK City, it's always a great relief.

30. BYE MARK!!!!
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 08:38 PM by RoyGBiv
I loathe Mark Shannon with a white hot fire. When he was there, I actually stopped listening to 107.7, the only station that had the kind of music I wanted to hear at the time, because of his Shannon and the Egg Man morning show. And it wasn't even as vile as he wanted it to be.

I think 7-Eleven is hiring. Maybe Mark should apply there ... oh, wait, no. He'd have bosses were were black and Asian, and ohmygod, those who were WOMEN, and they make you WORK for a living. He'd simply die.

Only downside to this is that he'll likely turn up on more car commercials, so I have to look at him.

These right-wing nutjobs -- and sadly a lot of liberals -- make a huge mistake when they pigeonhole Okies as right-wing lapdogs. No, on the whole, we're not the smartest political bunch in the country, but there is a reason people tend to vote Democratic in local elections. This is not a hardcore right-wing state. If the national party would just realize that and tailor campaigns in Oklahoma accordingly, we might have some hope of electing a few decent Democrats to national offices.

You just made my week. It might be safe to turn on AM radio again.
