Give Jack Cafferty a show. Dammit.
I posted this elsewhere but frankly felt like a cheap punk if I didn't back Jack to the hilt. So I post it here. As Fred MacMurray said to Barbara Stanwyck: OK, baby.

Jack is no doubt finishing a cup of joe and a nonfiltered smoke in some greasy spoon in Brooklyn right now even as we speak. Some punk in a trench coat will walk in later and Jack will smack him and tell him he will take it and like it. Then, Jack will retire to his $8 a night dive across from a flashing neon sign, lay down on his bed with the cheap metal frame, light up a last smoke and wonder if the babe who hired him yesterday has been straight with him from the get-go. We need Jack. We are Jack.

Jack Cafferty, Edward R. Murrow, Bogie and Cagney. They would accept the crap we are force fed for about 10 minutes.

2. Cafferty is an ass..
just because he throws us some red meat every now and then doesn't mean he's anymore deserving than a serious journalist - which is what we really need..

instead of the shills that are on CNN.

16. Stephanie Miller....she's actually funny, progressive, and is
defending McKinney as I type...rerun....by playing clips of Aholes like Hannity, Larry Elder, etc., in making the point that the RW is playing this up BIG, while ignoring the obvious fact that this has been very probably the WORST week Bush has ever had!

it's dePRESSING

I know she's not getting a TV gig in the near future, but I can fantasize

and I LOVE the way she always pronounces that creep Boehner's name

5. If you're a fan of the M$M lynching of McKinney, knock yourself out
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 08:33 PM by Gabi Hayes
he did a disgraceful email segment on her yesterday

four vicious comments; each more vile than the preceding

not a single one in support

he can go stick it

I taped it. one said she fraudulently played the race card. gee, was the emailer playing the race card?

another said she should be indicted

yet another, supposedly a dem for her district, said this: she's going to lose and is "an embarrassment to her district". sounds like lots of DUers

Imo. What was there to support?

I like McKinney, I agree with her views, but she handled things badly (as did other people).

12. riiiight..she caused her own problems
how? by trying to defend herself against the well organized RIGHT WING smear machine and its media apparatchiks?

did you read this:

“I have served as a Member of Congress for more than 11 years. Throughout my tenure in Congress, I seem to evoke memory loss, especially from certain police officers who claim not to be able to recognize my face while I go to work every day, representing the people of Georgia's 4th Congressional District . . .

“Why my face is continually unrecognizable can only be answered by these offending police officers. Capitol Hill Police are given face recognition instructions as a part of their official training. Capitol Hill Police are required to recognize, greet, and distinguish Members of Congress as a part of their official role and responsibilities. In fact, according to the US Capitol Police, their mission is to protect and support the Congress in meeting its constitutional responsibilities. The US Capitol Police mission statement makes no distinction about selective application of its mission depending upon whether a Member of Congress is black, woman, or has a new hairstyle.''

what a troublemaking BITCH!

23. I apologize
she's under attack on all fronts, a well cooridinated one. seems there are plenty here, too

this has me very very angry, and wondering why she's being subjected to such a concerted attack, even here. AFA her handling of the situation, we know what we know because of what we're being spoonfed by the M$M media. If you buy what they're selling, I have some waterfront property on Hudson's Bay that's thawing out earlier every year....

AFA the B word, you do recognize sarcasm, yes?

25. Of course...

...and I'm not saying she's wrong about what happened. There have been a lot of racist statements about her, no doubt - about her hair. Rush Limbaugh called her a "ho."

Yes the media has been a bit rabid in their coverage of her - very bad.

I wish the best for her, and I admire her greatly.

29. hope so...my most fervent hope is, though, that they don't take
us and the rest of the world down with us

it may be too late already, and the bitch of it is, it won't be this particular admin's fault

it all started when they went after Carter

ever read Liberty Under Seige?

our own fffing party was in on it, when they sabotaged Carter's energy program, the centerpiece of his policy reforms (along with campaign finance). they sabotaged him at every turn, despite having a 61-39 advantage in the senate! he couldn't even get his VERY FIRST nomination to the Senate floor, thanks to pressure from the far right, and willing acquiescence of DINOs like Scoop Jackson, a powerful toady of the MIC.

big business has ALWAYS run this country, and, I'm afraid, always will

with globalization I don't see it getting anything but worse

wish I were more optimo, but.....

11. We need a tough SOB. Your comment was right there, too.
From what I can see, over many months of watching, Jack Cafferty is a plain spoken, usually correct, sometimes wrong commentator who doesn't mince words. I guess I am just sick and tired of Tweety, Colmes, Shields and all the other gutless wonders who don't call 'em as they see 'em. Especially tonight, as Bush's impeachable lies are met with at best contempt and at worst laughter and dismissal. I am pissed, and I am not the only one out here. If not Jack Cafferty, a Jack Cafferty type. Edward R. Murrow, as I noted, would be just fine now, too.

18. I want somebody tough, then. Plain spoken. I am open to suggestions.
They are out there; not Tweety. Olbermann is too obviously a really nice guy. We need a tough SOB. I am not wedded to Jack; you get my point (plus, I admit, he does lend himself to a nice '30s paragraph). Anyway, we have been laughed at tonight by the media for taking Bush's lies seriously. OK, I am pissed. And glad you are on our side.

22. That's the problem right there...
viewers are either served cottan candy or shock jock types, to appeal to the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR .. that's the whole idea...

i would expect (and presume)intelligent DU activists to already understand what this crap is about and what it's purpose is - we should watch only as MONITORS (with a very critical eye and ear)what propaganda is being catapulted for that particular day's spin cycles. Not for our source of real news and information or even entertainment.

by the way, The Real News will be launching sample programming in the fall, gearing to begin regular broadcasting in 2007 - after all of this time - I for one, certainly cannot wait.

check out the plan: the http://www.iwtnews.com/

24. Cafferty Does Do A Show On Saturday...More Jack Than One Needs To See
Cafferty works best when used the least. He's like the cranky uncle who will come up with a great smack-down once in a while, but if you let him keep going he'll make your life miserable.

I know Jack's a fave here but in large doses he's iritating as all hell. Some may remember when he was on the morning show and would piss people off here regularly by shooting his mouth off about issues other than booosh.
