FINALLY A BOYCOTT WE CAN SINK OUR TEETH INTO: PLANT A VICTORY GARDEN

It is not sarcastic when I tell you we will all need one by fall, no matter who wins in November because food will continue to skyrocket along with fuel. Let's face it, those of you with younger families to support can't work another job, especially if you've already taken extra work. If they keep messing with interest rates some of us will get other rude awakenings.

That's all depressing though and Victory Gardens are fun! Spring has sprung. It's time to plant!

After you grow your own tomatoes, you'll never eat pretty red grocery store cardboard again. It's not only the pride you'll feel as you and Mother Nature conspire to screw a few mega corps out of profits; it's the flavor. Fresh, ripe and chock full of vitamins, nothing says boycott like a bushel of sweet yellow corn.

Even when I've lived in apartments I was able to grow a few things in the past, if I had a small deck and you can too!
Here's a link to bushels of gardening tips to help you start saving money, while eating healthier.

Let's start tasting the sweetness of Victory before November!

I usually post in the other forum. Gen Dis Politics but everyone over there was sharing so much very good info, I thought it might be nice to share it over here. a few kicks would help more people see it. I already got a ton of votes in the other forum.

4. I have long advocated gardening as a political act
And you are right, food prices will keep soaring. Growing some of what you need is a help.

It is a great thing to teach kids. You can teach some natural sciences, age appropriate biology, recycling, how to plan and how to do task assessment, bugs good and bad, and so on.

The best lesson the garden offers youngsters: the way things ARE is not what you have to settle for. YOU HAVE THE POWER TO AFFECT CHANGES IN YOUR SURROUNDINGS AND THE CONDITIONS OF YOUR LIFE! You do not have to rely on corporations to keep you alive! (There's a life lesson more Americans need to learn.)

Yep, gardening is a VERY political act! Act up in some dirt near you! :D

5. Kismet. I planted tomatoes yesterday....and I have to grow stuff
in pots - no "property" as such. I'm not worried about feeding myself or interest rates or anything along those lines - I don't have dependents or own anything other than my car, and do OK - I just really like homegrown veggies. Planted a Czech "heirloom" variety called Stupice. It'll be interesting.

15. DON'T KILL ME! I'M BLUFFING TO MAKE YOU THINK I'M BAD
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 10:09 PM by Jeffersons Ghost
but I'm really a non-venomous BULLSNAKE and I'm an unrivaled rodent killer.
I rattle my tail in dry leaves when I can to trick predators like you and
hiss so loud you'll wet your pants. I rarely bite, even if you pick me up
but don't try it buddy because I'm thick, muscular and hungry for mice

I also come in yellow, brown and combinations of those colors.
I'll make sure those varmints don't ruin you
and I'll grow up to get the big rats!

13. Potatoes are so much fun!
Like a treasure hunt.

Be sure to learn how to can your veggies! It is so much fun to open up your own veggies in January. So tasty and it feels grand.

18. Like my relative above, I'm non-venomous but I'll bite!
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 11:19 PM by Jeffersons Ghost
Most likely you will have to be dumb enough to grab me
before I bite and it won't hurt much.
I'm a GREY RAT SNAKE and I earn my name.
I get pretty large but smaller than a 8' BULLSNAKE!
My color is just like you see here almost everywhere
I occur in America.

I'm a good climber, with my specially adapted belly
scales.

8. I think Ill do veggies this year
Ya know, I usually plant flower beds in the back yard, but after reading your post I think Ill do a big vegetable garden this year. I have a pretty small back yard but it gets great sun, and I believe veggies would do really well back there.

Youve inspired me .

17. We have already tilled the dirt for 3 veggie gardens this year.
We usually do a normal garden but in consideration of the rising cost of food we decided to work a little harder and put in 2 more. We have a lot of canning and freezing planned. And sharing.

Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 12:22 AM by Jeffersons Ghost
I saw a great green luna moth flying in the night
Then on my tomato plant I saw it's child so bright
It was like a cute, green goblin and fairly fat and firm
When I met it, the next day, I guess some learn the hard way
about how nature doesn't play, when she sends a cutting worm

25. And donate your excess produce to a local food pantry
or other hunger relief organization:

http://www.gardenwriters.org/Par/index.html

Even if they don't have a PAR program, they will likely accept your donation.

I was at a Plant A Row launch event today and we were talking about Victory gardens too :)
