Does This Mean Jesus Was Suicidal? |
|
"A document from the year 300 portrays him as Jesus' closest friend, who carried out the betrayal only because Christ asked him to." http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-sci-judas7apr07,1,4608547.story?coll=la-headlines-nation

1. Jesus was a suicide bomber? Makes you think what was going through his |
|
mind when he thought something was worth laying down his life for.
An imperial occupying army, no prospect of their withdrawl. A nation brimming with religious fanatics and run by a theocracy in thrawl to the Romans with a mad emperor. Everybody on tenterhooks waiting for the apocalypse.
Plus ca change.

5. If one were cynical, one could make the argument that Jesus was |
|
planning long-term legacy and the establishment of a religious-political movement that would be sparked by his arrest and execution. Thus, while Jesus could have turned himself into the Roman authorities, it wouldn't have the same impact as Judas "betraying" him with identification. (An unanswered question remains of why Judas committed suicide if he did what he was asked by Jesus. It wouldn't necessarily be guilt.)
Another example: if Jesus told Peter that he would betray Jesus three times before the cock crowed, it wasn't accusing him of infidelity. It was an order to save Peter from being arrested with Jesus as Peter was needed to keep the program going after Jesus died.
Look at the big picture, religion aside. If this neonatal religion were to take off, it needed to get attention, political and economic backing, and a bunch of dedicated disciples to keep it going after its founder was not physically in existence.

6. the very LAST place i am going |
|
for truth of a religious or spiritual nature is the MSM. my dad studied all religions and translated the bible from the original aramaic. i'll stick with his interpretation of jesus' motives over these modern jesus as entertainment types.

9. you know, i'd do anything if pa were here |

so i could sit down with him and ask him questions about it. i know at the time he passed, he was reading a lot by a guy named Llamsa and believed his interpretation of things was pretty good. he also gave me a Jerusalam Bible and thought that was a pretty good one. the guy was a font of knowledge and wisdom and i know now he has the answers to all his questions. i know he didn't think much of the typically practiced christianity - that it was a cheap farce.
