call them up on their lies(washington journal) |
|
i currently dont have phone access at this time, i wish people would call these people up and tell them what is true, a filibuster still allows a vote, all be it a 60%(from what i remember) instead of 51% to win, cant these people understand that?

3. you watch so i don't have to |
|
my first real exposure to politics (i was always a liberal but didn't pay very close attention) was the thomas confirmation in 1991. as far as political theater goes it was the gold standard for excitement and unexpected turns. things were literally changing every 10 minutes. after that i was hooked and became a politics junkie for about 5 years. sadly the barrage of right wingery has worn me down and i NEVER, repeat NEVER watch any of the political shows (and i used to watch ALL of them) anymore. i'm sick of the lies and the spin and the tepid response of the democrats.
alito will end up getting 70 votes. remember this - thomas got thru a senate that had a 56-44 democratic majority. this despite the fact that he had scant qualifications, was not endorsed by the aba (very rare) and repeatedly lied to the committee (i remember he said he'd never thought about roe v wade even though he was in law school when the decision came down). he should have been rejected even BEFORE anita hill came forward. the dems had no spine (at leats no enuf of them) then and they have none now. nonetheless - enjoy!!

Now I'm just discouraged. I'm tired of watching hearings that just lead up to nominations, no matter what. I'd love to be told I'm wrong (with examples), but I don't think that's going to happen.

5. DU will explode in outrage when Alito is confirmed |
|
but there will be no fillibuster. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade and it is important that people watch the hearings - but they such a charade and I've seen so many of them that I just can't watch anymore.
