Just Read the Hersh Article-OMG!
I think we are all in BIG trouble.

The Iran Plans by Seymour M. Hersh/The New Yorker

A government consultant with close ties to the civilian leadership in the Pentagon said that Bush was “absolutely convinced that Iran is going to get the bomb” if it is not stopped. He said that the President believes that he must do “what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do,” and “that saving Iran is going to be his legacy.”

Take thirty minutes and read this ... this is very scary.

2. This is terrible
How the hell can we fix Iran without resorting to war??? The rest of the world needs to step up and address this problem in a non-violent, effective manner.

4. A scenario reminiscent of John Birch, but I'm wondering:

what if Russia and/or China attacked the U.S. after our attack on Iran because militarily and politically, we would be "distracted" and like 9-11, wouldn't see it coming? In other words, our guard is down, why not?

5. They are probably COUNTING on Russia getting into to the fight!
There are too many old Nixon era cold war thinkers still hanging around pulling strings. They never got over wanting to mix it up with the Big Bear. The Bear doesn't look so formidable now and they are really tempted to pick a fight. It is gonna bite them in the ass, big time. Sadly, they aren't the ones who will get killed.

Only hope I see is the huge corporations doing business with China. They probably don't want a war with China after sinking $$ into manufacturing plants there. If they wanna protect their investments, they had best be exerting a lot of pressure on the Dr. Stranglove wing of the neocons to STFU.

6. Bush is a madman out of control surrounded by brain-dead flunkies.
If this doesn't make people wake up I don't know what will. There must be a HUGE march on Washington demanding Bush to step down since the Congress will not impeach him. If the anti-war protesters and the pro-immigration folks could ever get together and march as one group it would be awesome. The Rethugs are bat-shit crazy watching all the protests ont he immigration issue. They just had no idea that there were so many of them here and what they look like in a protest--and those protests for the most part didn't even include the Asian and EU illegals that are living among us.

7. This is worthy of discussion....
Learning to Love the Bomb

At the risk of damaging his reputation, I want to say a few words in praise of a New York Times reporter. David Sanger had a very smart piece in Sunday's "Week in Review" section titled "Suppose We Just Let Iran Have the Bomb." The President and Vice President continue to hint darkly that "all options" remain on the table until Iran surrenders its nuclear ambitions. Sanger punctured the unilateral bluster and never raised his voice.

That bold article required a reporter with considerable self-confidence--a rare quality these days, when most Washington reporters act like nervous bunny rabbits, always jumping out of the way. Sanger has an advantage. He understands the diplomatic complexities of nuclear proliferation--deeply, soberly--because he has been covering this story for many years. I surmise he has reached that sublime point in a reporter's career where he knows the subject far better than the passing-through "government officials" he covers.

Despite the "crisis" rumblings, Sanger coolly observes: "Some experts in the United States--mostly outside the administration--have been thinking the unthinkable, or at least the un-discussable: If all other options are worse, could the world learn to live with a nuclear Iran?"

The obvious answer is yes (especially if the only other option requires a second-front war in the Middle East). Iranians already seem to understand this. But do Americans?

8. Nice post and a very wise article
you gave all of us to read by David Sanger. Sanger brings a very credible argument into the mix of nuclear power in the Middle East. If you allow other countries like Israel, India and Pakistan to have nuclear power and weapons, why not Iran? The Middle East may have their own "Cold War" as we did with Russia but I think it would eventually work out to be a stalemate between the countries, they would all hold each other in check. Perhaps it's something they need to indure in order to bring peace to the Middle East. Would that be so bad?

The regime change that MUST take place is the one in our own County. We CAN NOT afford to invade another country, it would be our demise! I think the time has come for us, as a country, to take to the streets and demand the senseless war on Islam stop! NO MORE WARS!!! NO MORE LIES!!!

10. The scariest part of the entire article:
Speaking of President Bush, the House member said, “The most worrisome thing is that this guy has a messianic vision.”

:scared:

12. I thought that quote was esp. bad as well.
“what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do”

There is no reasoning with him at that rate.
