So....who was Bob Woodward's source on the Plame information?
Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 04:13 PM by TwoSparkles
Remember in Nov 05 when Woodward FINALLY came forward and revealed that he learned about Plame's CIA status a month prior to Novak disclosing it in his column? Woodward said the source wasn't Rove or Libby--but specified that the source was a "high-level official".

Interesting. Woodward sat on this information for a long, long time. Obviously, he knew this information was a bombshell, which is why he kept this tidbit from Fitzgerald. Coming forward seems to demonstrate that Woodward's understood that the information he had was major news--and he had no choice but to come forward.

I wonder if the information Woodward gave to Fitzgerald will help nail Cheney or Junior? If Woodward testified that Cheney or Junior knew about Plame before the media reported it--and if Libby is saying that Cheney/Junior told him to leak--it certainly would make sense that this was a stunt orchestrated at the highest of levels.

1. It was the MONKEY or ole DeadEye--he spent hours with them
gathering material for those blow jobs he called books.

2. Yep, I bet it was during all the "book time" when he got the info.
It's true, he talked to all of them. Hard to say which one it was or ALL OF THEM!

4. Fitz has known exactly what went down for quite some time....
...long before Woodward went public. I think Woodward went public as soon as the light went off in his head that Fitz knew the full story. IMHO, he came forward to save himself from being caught up in the growing legal case.

Remember how derogatory Woodward was about Fitz until the Libby was indicted, and do you notice how polite he was very soon after? Have you noticed how little he has said since that time?

6. And isn't it AMUSING that two women named MILLER are at the nexus
of all this? We have JAILED JUDY, who turned over her Ass-pens,

and Emily, Get Out of the Way, who got IN the way of Tom DeLay!

If I were a BushCo member, I'd be wary as hell of ANYONE named MILLER, at this point in time. Who will be the next "revealer of truth?"

BARNEY MILLER--investigating low crimes and misdemeanors?

ANN MILLER--stomping on a few Administration heads, in syncopated rhythm?

If this keeps up, there will only be ONE MILLER that Monkey and crew can turn to:

5. Not quite the "bombshell" Libby would like it to be, although his team
tries to use it to distract from Libby's own problems with his testimony to the grand jury. In terms of the current charges against Libby, it's really irrelevant.

And it took over 2 years for Woodward to realize that it was major news? He had "no choice" but to come forward? He kept mum for over two years, while he railed against Fitzgerald as a "junkyard dog" and the Plame investigation as much ado about nothing.

After Libby's indictment, Woodward's source went to Fitz and told him about the conversation with Woodward. It's not like Woodward "came forward" and volunteered the info. The source had released Woodward to talk to Fitz so Woodward couldn't very well refuse when Fitz called on him. Woodward was "drawn into" talking to Fitz, he didn't "come forward."

As for speculation regarding Woody's source, Libby's camp has been trying to shovel the "Armitage was Woodward's source" story for a number of reasons. Although reportedly Libby whispered Plame info into Ari Fleischer's ear and told him the info wasn't widely known, and Libby also refused to discuss Plame info with another official on an unsecure line, Libby's camp is trying to portray it as info so widely known that all sorts of people were leaking. They've been trying to pin leaking on the State Dept, first pointing at Powell then Armitage.

Some people like Hadley as Woodward's source. But Woodward did nothing with the info, he didn't publish it.

As for Cheney, in Woodward's own published account he says he was making the rounds talking to folks when someone slipped him the Plame info in a sort of off hand manner. As I recall, Woodward hadn't yet spoken to Cheney when he was told about Plame.

And btw, of course Cheney knew about Plame's identity long before it was reported in the media. Per the Libby indictment, as I recall, Cheney told Libby that she worked in the Counterproliferation Division of the Directorate of Operations at the CIA in early June.
