Who is your choice for Bill Maher's worst guest EVER...?
Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 09:25 PM by bliss_eternal
...and why?

If you can't narrow it down to one, you can name a top three and state why they are on your list.

My top three (actually four because I have a tie for #2) are:

Ann Coulter--because I don't think she should be given any additional platforms for her brand of hatred.

Seth Green and Chris Rock have a tie--I had hopes that they would be better than they were...

Joe Scarborough-he was SO fuckin' rude to the President of Ireland. But for the most part, his rude, arrogant, blowhard ways and manner--talking over people, shouting, acting like a complete neanderthal. :eyes:

bliss_e. :hi:

1. Definitely Coulter
she never brings anything except her tired schtick of dripping sarcasm. Might as well book David Spade. Coulter isn't knowledgeable. She doesn't talk facts or specifics. It's just the politics of personal destruction. When she can't follow the topic, which is often, she repeats a non sequitor which is nonsensical but does tend to disrupt the discussion. "Ted Kennedy! Chappaquiddick!" When the discussion is about health care reform.
No wit. No class. No depth.
She's just road rage added for the WWF effect. The producers are hoping someone will get so enraged by her that physical violence will erupt.

6. Oh yeah--I'd forgotten about him--
blocked the awful experience from my mind. Didn't he try to tell Spike Lee there was no racism in America anymore? That was a priceless moment. I don't know how Spike just sat there looking at him, I think tucker's comments may have provoked me to violence.

What an annoying little man.

14. Didn't he?
I was surprised, as Spike managed to maintain far more composure than a lot would have. You could tell he was pissed, but he didn't shout him down the way the repukes on the show do when someone disagrees with them.

I wish he had kicked his ass--he deserved it. Or at least jammed that bowtie up his smug nose...

Ann Coulter -- because she IS a Fascist Party Doll, just as Richard Belzer (bless his heart) said.

Tony Snow -- because he couldn't quite grasp that Real Time was NOT his show and took over the conversation, even interrupting Bill Maher. He ran roughshod over that night. (On edit: I know he's been on more than once; I'm referring to the night he was on the panel with Billy Connolly.)

Phyllis Schafley -- because she is a deeply disturbed painted doll who's scary beyond belief. She had this to say about reining in "activist" judges, right up to implementing legislative control over the Supreme Court:

SCHLAFLY: All right, the problem is, we do not want the judges doing things like abolishing the Pledge of Allegiance, changing the definition of marriage, throwing the Boy Scouts out of the public schools. And what we think is that congress should pass a law, taking away from the federal courts, jurisdiction over those areas where we don't trust them. And those are three good areas where we simply do not trust them.

...that is ingrained in my head as my all time favorite Bill Maher show moment! LOVE him! :hi:

Oh, I think I recall the Tony Snow night you are referring to. He was obnoxious. But when don't they try to take over the show?

I missed Schafly, I'm kind of glad. She sounds absolutely terrifying! :scared:

I recall him pointing out passionately that Bush flew to D.C. to help Terri Schiavo, "but when thousands of people were dying in New Orleans were dying, this son of a bitch didn't do shit!"

That was his actual quote, and you can tell he was really pissed about the whole situation.

but was embarassed by Seth Green and Chris Rock.

DL Hughley is passionate and knows enough about the issues to make interesting comments in response to the discussion. The audience always applauds loudly and often when DL is on. I enjoy his visits as well.

But of course, you don't have to like him just because a couple of us do. ;)

37. Christopher Hitchens.
Ann Coulter is an idiot and stands out as a cardboard cutout, frothing conservative. Hitchens was once a reasonable liberal, but no more, and he tries to play both sides against each other. Coulter just aims all her hate at the liberals and that makes her a predictable cipher. I find Hitchens far more odious.

Jason Alexander, Richard Belzer, and Ian McShane. McShane knows more about American politics than most Americans. As for the ladies, I'd like to see liberals, and Ocsar winners, Jessica Lange and Meryl Streep appear on Maher's show.

34. Well, a Google search turned this up from The Nation, but is from 1999.
Kevin Costner is frequently cited as a celebrity Republican, although he no longer is. He did socialize and golf with President Bush, and in 1992 the Bush re-election campaign leaked word that he would appear in a commercial for the President. Costner, then a registered Republican, had no intention of aiding Bush, according to a close associate of Costner. He was a Clinton supporter. "We had to tell the Bush campaign to stop saying he was going to do ads," the associate says. Before the 1996 election, Costner switched his registration to Independent. He gave $5,000 to the Democratic Party and attended the Democratic convention. Still, he continues to receive invitations to GOP fundraisers, and in February the New York Times referred to him as a Republican. "He's not a particularly political guy," says the associate. <snip>

Seems he's an Independent? Use to be a repuke and he donated to the Democratic Party.

http://www.thenation.com/doc/19990405/corn/3

It looks like he also donated to Al Gore in 2000. Hmmm....maybe he has redeemed himself. I'll consider removing him from my shitlist.:7

<snip>Although Republicans have sometimes appealed to he-men actors, Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage followed his uncle, director Francis Ford Coppola, into the Democratic column. Texas tough guy Tommy Lee Jones gave $2,000 to his old college roommate, Gore. And, while Kevin Costner, star of "Open Range, once contributed to conservative Sen. Phil Gramm, R-Texas, in 2000 he was back with the Hollywood herd, handing over $3,000 to the vice president.

45. That's so funny--
also demonstrates that with shrub he expects his friendships to pay off in some way. It wasn't enough to be able to say he golfs with a famous actor/celebrity, he had to make it serve him by expecting Costner to do campaign ads for him. Costner isn't as dumb as he looked on Maher, apparently. His career would have went right down the toilet had he ever done such an ad.

..and the fact he's donated to Dems somewhat redeems him to me, too. :hi:

42. That often happens when the right isn't able to fix the fight
and why you'll never see Rush or Hannity in a bare-knuckles open debate with someone from the left. Hannity and O'Reilly tape and edit. Plus, carefully vet. And Rush. Well, he's as carefully protected as Bush. You'll never see him outside his hermetically sealed studio with his flotilla of handlers on-hand to feed him scripted comments. He ventured out once, years ago, on late night TV. Letterman's show. And the poor man had a total meltdown when the audience booed. He couldn't speak clearly, was sweaty and scared. Letterman took pity on him and shuffled him off to the wings.
