For the second time we would be the only nation ever to use a nuclear weapon. This time we would not be able to equivocate on the use.

What would happen?

All creditor nations would immediately drop the dollar.
Oil supplies would be curtailed and gasoline would go to hundred dollars a gallon.
The UN would move to censure and embargo the US.
Bush, et al would be indicted at the world court for crimes against humanity.

That would be the opening bids, we would spend the next few years wondering which of the “Big Boys,” China or Russia was going to punch our clock. If not them, on of the other nations that would be in a rush to develop a nuclear weapon, for the arms race would be on for real.

It would be just time until Detroit, LA, Dallas or Chicago was no longer. For we could count on someone in this world do the deed and pay-back would be hell.

8. Israel, Australia, Phillippines as well...
Israel has always been pro-US.

But its good news that the world's largest democracy is on our side.

If Bush were to nuke Iran, dont think any country other than Israel would be pro-US anymore.

12. poland?
meanwhile - in the minds of many countries we already are a Pariah Nation -- bush* doesn't seem to care about that - doesn't even enter into the discussions on "to nuke or not to nuke" question

4. Nuclear Fallout
Let's not forget about the environmental consequences. There
would be enormous immediate civilian causalities from the
blast and heat alone. Followed by the tons of radioactive
debris that would be thrown into the atmosphere. Then many of
the people of Iran would be made to die a long lingering death
from radiation illness, resultant cancers, etc. Plus we would
have decades of birth defects in children born afterward.

And then what? I don't know much about how Iran's geography
plugs into the local ecosystems, water supplies, and weather
patterns. How badly would the rest of the Middle East be
affected by radiation getting airborne and into the water?
Would a radioactive cloud over Iran ever reach Europe? What
about wildlife, particularly those species in the Mideast and
proximal African and Asian regions that are endangered.

And how long would it all last? What is the rate of
radioactive decay for the types of bombs we make today? A few
years? Decades? More?

What happened to the people of the United States and the guys
in the Pentagon? Did they just wipe they're memories of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Don't they remember all those ghastly
80s TV movies like "The Day After,"
"Threads," and "Special Bulletin," or are
they still watching those pathetic "Duck &
Cover" films the US government put out in the 50s that
made it look like a nuclear attack was actually survivable?

6. What about radiation? It could wind up killing millions of Iranians
and render much of the land uninhabitable for 200,000 years. Where are the scientists? It's time for them to speak on on this before its too late.
