Bible question!
I am looking for a part of the Bible involving Abraham when he was questioning god... He says something like "shall not the God of all do right?"

1. It must have had something to do with God's demand
that he kill his son Isaac as a sacrifice. I believe you'll find that somewhere in Genesis. Now my curiosity's aroused. I'll see if I can find it for you.

5. "shall not the Judge of all the earth do right" -- several other variants:
http://bible.cc/genesis/18-25.htm

Genesis 18:25

Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn't the Judge of all the earth do right?" (WEB)

That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked; that be far from thee: shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? (ASV)

Let such a thing be far from you, to put the upright to death with the sinner: will not the judge of all the earth do right? (BBE)

Far be it from thee to do so, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that the righteous should be as the wicked far be it from thee! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right? (DBY)

That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? (KJV)

That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? (WBS)

That be far from Thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked; that be far from Thee; shall not the judge of all the earth do justly?' (JPS)

Far be it from Thee to do according to this thing, to put to death the righteous with the wicked; that it hath been -- as the righteous so the wicked -- far be it from Thee; doth the Judge of all the earth not do justice?' (YLT)

6. I think maybe I found what you're asking about...
This is in Chapter 18. When God is getting ready to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah for their wickedness, Abraham begs Him to spare the cities. He says, "Will you destroy the righteous together with the wicked? Suppose there are in the city fifty righeous; will you destroy the place and not spare it for the sake of the fifty righteous in it? Far be it from you to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as do the wicked? Be that far from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth execute judgment and do righteously?" This is from the Amplified Bible and isn't exactly your quote, but it's pretty close.

9. And the Lord said,
Edited on Sat Apr-08-06 11:44 PM by Blue_In_AK
If I find in the city of Sodom fifty righteous, I will spare the whole place for their sakes. Abraham answered, Behold now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken upon myself to speak to the Lord. If five of the fifty righteous should be lacking, will You destroy the whole city for lack of five? He said, If I find forty-five, I will not destroy it. And Abraham spoke to Him yet again and said, Suppose only forty shall be found there. And He said, I will not do it for forty's sake. (And so on, down to 10.) And the Lord went His way when He finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

Of course, in spite of Abraham's intercession, God couldn't even come up with 10 righteous people in Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities bit the dust.

11. Not soon enough....
I would think He'd have that selective smiting thing down by now. I wouldn't want Him to take out all of DC, of course, but it sure seems like He could wreak a little havoc in the White House if He wanted to. Maybe He's leaving it up to us to take care of this mess. Maybe the days of divine intervention are over.
