Kerry on Meet the Press
Edited on Sun Apr-09-06 09:04 AM by Roland99
Why isn't Kerry going into detail about how to withdraw from Iraq and yet maintain a presence in case things go horribly bad.

A "Dayton Peace Accord" type event is his answer?

That can only be one part of an entire solution. War could break out much more quickly than peace talks could be put together.

1. Said he "profoundly" regrets voting for the Oct. 2002 Iraq War Resolution
Did bring up a good point re: Iraq cannot be won militarily, has to be done politically.

Said using nukes against Iran would be the pinnacle of irresponsibility.

4. Iraq cannot be "won"' by us militarily or politically
True attacking Iran would be irresponsible, but what would congress do if bush tried it?

2. I do not watch the talking heads so I will take your word for it
Kerry has submitted a plan which calls for how we could get out of Iraq, and you are saying he isn't articulating it on MTP?

Frankly, this was his problem when he ran for president in 2004, he gave mixed messages

3. He gave a high-level overview of needing peace talks
and a 4- to 5-month pullout.

That's about it.

6. Kerry said "Yes" he would vote to Censure the President
"He violated the law, in my judgment. I think impeachment talk is a waste of time...I want to get to matters important to Americans...they want us to get something done for this country."

10. "I believe we have to get the stakeholders of the region involved"
That's what I've been saying for years. Time to stop the talk and start the process. Make the phone calls! Set the meetings!

11. So call Rice and Bush - Kerry cannot do that, unfortunately.
If he could, he certainly would.

12. Why not? He can't do an end-run around the admin?
And do so with other Senators/Reps?

13. Because international talks cannot be held by the Congress w/o
agreement of the Executive. This is the law.

This does not mean that Kerry has not met many foreign leaders to see what they thought. He did, and several times since last year. But these are private talks, not official talks. He does not have any power to make negotiations if * does not want (actually, it could be seen as treason).

14. He can't make calls & get the region's leaders to start calling for talks
since this admin sure as hell isn't going to do it.

15. I think he is doing a really good job on MTP this morning. HE is showing
leadership where it comes to Iraq and getting the region involved in helping to settle the politics, security, and govt of Iraq. The Imperial Blivet and "Dr. Rice" haven't done shit on helping Iraq resolve its problems, probably because they want an endless war.
