Kristol Launches Right-Wing Attack On Fitzgerald
Kristol Launches Right-Wing Attack On Fitzgerald

When former Deputy Attorney General James Comey appointed Patrick Fitzgerald to investigate the outing of Valerie Plame he called Fitzgerald “an absolutely apolitical career prosecutor” and praised “his sterling reputation for integrity and impartiality.”

But now, Fitzgerald’s investigation has uncovered information that is damaging to President Bush. Today on Fox News Sunday, Weekly Standard editor William Kristol began the attack:
You know, the leak story is absurd, but I now think the whole prosecution is absurd. And I have hesitated to say this, because I have friends who respect Fitzgerald, but I now think it’s a politically motivated attempt to wound the Bush administration. … He is now out to discredit the Bush administration. He has bought the argument that there is something improper about the Bush administration responding to Joe Wilson’s charges.

2. No surprise there...
Typical Republican maneuver...personal attacks on the person. Just like they're going to do the Kerry for his Iraqi plan and everyone else who dares to go against this regime. I'm so sick of this crap & the attack mode that's been cultivated in this country by people like Kristol.

4. What's next? Fitzgerald is a "terra-ist"??!
It's only a matter of time before the repukes turn this into a national security issue.
When the semmingly inevitable outcome becomes apparent (the collapse of this administration), all the stops will be pulled out including casting the investigation as an enemy plot.
Am I over-reacting here, or does anyone else out there see this matter as a potential revolutionary spark?

6. Weak, weak.
If that's the best Kristol can do, it ain't much of an attack on Fitz.

The kool-aid crowd will buy in, but who cares about them.

34. You're absolutely right about the kool-aid crowd. I used to think
that once the truth came out that they would demand that Bush and his administration live up to the promise they made of honesty and integrity in the White House. However, when it becomes clear that this is the most corrupt administration in our lifetime, they allow him to change the rules and continue to defend him. I believe that for them it's easier to pretend that everything Bush has done is OK rather than to examine their own conscience and determine that they were wrong about him. They have Bush's mindset of never being able to admit to a mistake.

threatened if Bush's war machine is slowed or stopped.

Fitzgerald has done his job well, sounds like to me.

17. I agree....
Eventually, this whole prosecution mess is going to lead back to guys like Kristol and the PNAC gang. They're going to have to talk about it. Kristol knows the Project is in trouble if the Republicans lose against Fitz.

8. Reply?
The Bush** administration discredited the Bush** administration. It is Fitzgerald's job to find the answers and he is.

Let them try to spin this, I think at this point there are enough people awake to listen, agree then slap themselves up the side of their heads when they find that the spin leads to nothing but crap.

At least I hope there are that many people awake.

29. There will always be that 33% or so......
who believe every word the GOP Spin-Meister's tell them. It's much easier than thinking for themselves. Why would they want to hurt their brains? They haven't used them in decades and "if you don't use it, you lose it". In short, the GOP have lost their minds.

10. It's a little late
to put the horse back into the burning barn.

Besides, that is such an intellectually lazy argument. Find something bad on Bush? Must be politically motivated because there could be absolutley no other explanation to it. End of discussion. Never mind the facts, never mind trying to uncover the truth.

At Fitz's new conference back in October he was asked about the allegations of this being politically motivated. He responded that one day he had been called a left wing hack and the next day he had been called a right wing hack. The only thing he did between those two days was sleep.

I seriously question the intelligence of anyone who, at this point in time, will continue to make excuses for BushCo. How much more evidence do people need to say "Enough is enough. This is bad not only for our party but for America."? They are nothing more than partisan hacks who don't give a rat's ass about the truth.

11. what's the "political motivation?"
Fitz is an apolitical republican.

Kenneth Starr, on other hand, was an intensely political conservative republican.

Do you think they care if a person is a Democrat or a Republican if they disagree with Herr Bush?

Also, I've seen stories that had Fitz as a Republican or a Democrat... I think he's independent, but he was appointed by a Republican.

13. Let's never be mistaken about Kristol...
These past few years, there have been some threads about Kristol finally "seeing the light" and "complaining about Bush", and changing for the better.

In his publication, the Weekly Standard, Kristol has been bitching about Bush and the Neocon plans.

When push comes to shove, Kristol protects his own.

Like Birds of a feather.

25. Kristol is an architect. An archtect of the PNAC plan. The WH is
Cheney (except when Geroge act because he thinks he is). Cheney is PNAC. For Kristol to criticize George who forwards the PNAC plan is the worst find of joke. Did anyone ask him to describe his version of a new-con? There's a built-in lie here. Kristol is being Kristol. Complete unethical adn unpatriotic to America - America - all the people, not just PNAC and right wing Israel.

30. And...if the Repugs can't get of Fitz then Bush will have to pardon Libby
or he and Cheney will be forced to testify at the trial. Both scenarios would be huge trouble for the Bushies. (According to Bob Bennett, Judy Miller's lawyer and former Clinton lawyer.)

Kristol and the Neo-Cons are really bailing water as fast as they can hoping against hope the old "pre-emptive strike" routine will work again.

:D

18. "The whole art of war consists...
...in a well-reasoned and extremely circumspect defensive, followed by rapid and audacious attack." Karl Rove, and Napoleon

There are no enlightened despots. Tyranny is inherently evil. Napoleon, while he lost to kings and queens, was still a despot. A single person will always cause injury if given absolute rule. It is impossible for one man to know what is right for 300 million people. The future of a nation should not depend upon the character of one person, but all of the people.

19. wasn't it Libby that demanded the release of information? Not Fitz...
these people know no shame. Eff Kristol and Eff George Bush. May they both rot in hell for their crimes against humanity. George Bush and this messianic administration has created far too much death and carnage already. Its time this man is removed from office and tried for treason. These people are ruthless bastards. Billions spent on death, war, and destruction while people here are starving, dying, unemployed, and without insurance.

Shame on every damn one of them. This isn't just about George Bush anymore. I have no respect for anyone that would defend Bush at this point.
