Gingrich: Democrats' slogan should simply be "Had Enough?"
by John in DC - 4/09/2006 12:16:00 PM

And he's right.

Keep is simple, stupids.

"We can do better" is nice (that's the Democrats current slogan), but it's kind of whiny and doesn't really mean anything. And spare us the explanation that while it means nothing it really means EVERYTHING since each Democrat can tailor it to mean whatever he wants. That's tres John Kerry, standing for nothing and everything at the same time.

Newt is right.

I've had enough. Have you?

2. Hey, a scumbag he may be, but he won big in his time
54 House seats and 8 Senate seats. If we had that kind of winning power, we'd have no problem

4. But common sense is common sense
And even a pus bag like Gingrich has just a touch of it, apparently. I agree with the assessment of "we can do better". "Better" isn't cutting it. We need to do GREAT. Part of being great means being straight-forward and speaking directly about the issues. "Had Enough?" gets us in the door where we can start working on "great."

Thanks, Newt, 'preciate that.

7. Sorry but as a political strategist and tactician the man is good

And it's a simple slogan that you then back up with something like the "contract with America" that they used in 94. It really is that simple. I've listened to discussions about the '94 elections, that was the basis of his gameplan.

What we need

1) the slogan short simple to the point, bumper sticker ready

2) detailed 4 to 5 page outline of what Democrats want to do once in power, that is broad enough to allow candidates that can win in more conservative districts to sign off on

3) a political campaign training school like Newt ran before the '94 campaign for candidates challenging for the first time.

4) be willing to fully fund more conservative Dems in conservative districts, no matter how bad things are we are not going to have a 100 seat swing the country is too polarized and the house districts are too gerrymandered.

The last is the most important, to take back the house we will have to knock out or take an some open seats in "safe" repuke seats. This more than likely will take a Democrat that will be to the right of many who make the decisions as to party support. The best way is to go out and recruit them. Don't let right leaning Dems (Zell Miller types) run, we have to find our own LOYAL conservative Democrats to run for the seats, and let them know that they are supported by the party, let them know that we want them to run we want them to win and will help them do such. Differences after they are elected can be debated then. We have to play on the field we are given. This is one area the GOP kicks our ass in, just look at how many pro-choice, pro-gun control candidates they run in liberal districts with funding and support for the national party organizations. We have to do the same and fight back, make them spend money and resources in their safe districts and hopefully take some of them.

6. The Republicans used that campaign slogan in 1946
And the voters gave them majorities in the House, the Senate, and the state capitols.

8. I detest GIngrich, but if one looks at his motivations...
it does not surprise me that he would offer such a candid (and accurate) comment, in terms of Dem strategy. Gingrich was tossed aside by the current crowd (Delay, et al) and his infamous Contract For (ON) America that brought the landslide of Republicans to power is being dismantled by this corrupt, greedy, incompetent cabal in Congress (leaving aside the WH cabal, for the moment).

Gingrich's own legacy is being diminished/dismantled by these fools and he is open to aiding their "comeuppance" SHORT TERM. And, the emphasis is definitely SHORT TERM. Once those who crossed Gingrich are done with--I'm sure he will seek to capitalize--and that will surely not include benefits to DEMS.

10. It was the Republican Congressional campaign slogan for 1946
The GOP won back Congress in a virtual landslide that year.

11. Gingrich is not a very likeable human being. BUT!
With that said, he's good at what he does, and he wants what is best for himself. What he's good at doing is finding the specific message that cuts down his opponents and resonates with voters. And what's best for his own personal self is for the Neoconservatives to fall from power, so that his brand of conservativism can rise up again. He knows the only way that's going to happen is via the Democratic party.

And he's right about "We Can Do Better." It is a weak-sauce campaign slogan. It's what you say to your boss when you've never been in charge before but you want to be given a chance. "Had Enough?" is what you say to your boss when he replaced you with some pinheaded prick that screws up everything he's put in charge of.
