solutions to illegal immigrant problem |
|
dunno if this is the right forum for this, if it isnt, mods please move it, thanks
i would like to know peoples opinions on what to do about the illegal immigrant problem our country faces. both with the illegal aliens already in the country and securing our borders against future illegals from coming in.
here is what i would do 1) fine heavily (re tens of millions of dollars) to any company that hires illegal/undocumented alients. each illegal they hire is a seperate fine 2) the illegals that are here and working hard should be given short term green cards, documented make sure they check in regularly with INS on their job status. if they lose their job they are given 6 months to find a new job or leave. if they are found to violate these terms, they would be deported and banned from american residence ever again 3) increase the guarding of our borders thru electronic survailence and walls. 4) make it illegal for the workers who come here to send more than 20% of their income back to their native countries. if they arent allowed to send money back, the draw to come here is reduced greatly. 5) any illegals who came here legally and overstayed their visas are to be sent home and not allowed back. they should be already, but we need to step up enforcement of this.

1. A large increase in the minimum wage |
|
and BIG penalties for employers paying less to employ uninformed or desperate illegals.

2. That is the MAJOR change that will solve the problem. |
|
Ensure a wage floor that will support a full time worker.
Focus on scumbag employers who try to exploit workers.

7. This is the only answer that is workable. |
|
But it will never happen. The last amnesty tried to do exactly what you outlined. However, by the time it went through Congress and President Reagan, a watered down version favorable to the exploitation of new illegals was passed.

3. Solution to Illegal Immigration |

I live in an area where illegal immigration began during WW2. When the illegals became a problem , the solution was, then, to fine the people who hire them to work in this country. IT STILL IS1111

5. I think dehumanizing fellow working class allies |
|
with labels like "aliens" and "illegals" and draconian talking points about "solutions to the illegal immigrant problem" is misguided at best.
I have no fear of "illegal aliens" in the least.

6. Ihr papiere, bitte. Sounds better in German. I like Emma Lazarus's |
|
solution better.
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Quite out of fashion now to accept the tired, poor, huddled masses.

the places where illegals work the most are landscaping businesses, including simply mowing awns, Mexican Restaurants, and in labor jobs like daily construction or oilfield work.
In other words, mostly very small businesses. I'm sure I've hired some myself.
Are all these restaurants and small businesses to be fined out of existence by your plan? And am I supposed to ask for citizenship papers for all the workers of the guy who does my landscaping? Every time they come there are two or three different guys. It's been that way for ten years. Am I spposed to be able to prove each one is a citizen? I'm sometimes not even home when they come.

9. they dont own the landscaping companies |
|
they work for someone. those are the ones that need to be fined heavily, along with any other day job, etc. i can almost guarrantee you none of them are being paid a fair days wage and are being exploited. if you make sure the businesses wont hire illegals, the stream of them coming into the country will stop. then we can start a proper documented legal visiting worker program. to make sure they are paid properly. that the businesses that hire them pay the taxes, disability insurance on them.
the businesses will know of the law and they will stop hiring illegals. especially the small ones.
undocumented/illegal workers do not pay income/payroll taxes. their bosses dont pay their share of the taxes either. their employers dont pay state disability insurance on them either.
if one of those landscapers gets hurt while cutting your lawn, they are SOL.
what is your solution to the 11 million undocumented/illegal aliens in america?
