DiGenova suggests no trial: "You'll see a pardon first"
....{T}he White House has dismissed questions stemming from the special prosecutor's investigation with the explanation that it can't comment on an ongoing legal case. "They're not coming to their own defense," {DiGenova} said.

With Bush's overall standing at a low and with a congressional election campaign ahead, Republicans are bracing for a difficult year. "We're in a tough environment," Fabrizio said. "And if more information comes out , it could be even tougher."

The special prosecutor signaled in his court filing last week that he intended to call several former Bush aides as witnesses against Libby, including former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer — raising the specter of court proceedings that could lay bare the inner workings of the White House.

"I can't imagine this case going to trial," DiGenova said. "You'll see a pardon first."

1. Whenever something smells bad you can bet your last dollar
that DiGenova will appear. Accordingly, DiGenova thinks a pardon is right around the corner for the slimy rat.

Moreover, DiGenova said, the White House has dismissed questions stemming from the special prosecutor's investigation with the explanation that it can't comment on an ongoing legal case. "They're not coming to their own defense," he said.

2. But...
It's obvious that the pardon would only be to keep Bush & Cheney from having to testify -- hence tell the truth under oath. I'd think that would piss off the moderates -- swing voters who really make a difference -- more than anything. (The base will never change.) In the end, no matter what they do -- pardon or testify -- they're screwed, IMHO.

3. Would there be widespread outrage over a pardon?
The WH is in a real bind here. A pardon would have obvious negative implications of guilt. Not pardoning would expose no telling what other scandals. Just the position we want them in.

4. Typical Of The Twisted DiGenova/Toensing Cabal
During the Clinton impeachment proceedings they were screaming for his head. Now with serious security matters at stake and a lying, cheating rez, they are floating out a pardon story. On what grounds they should be asked. On the one hand they say nothing here, move along, and on the other they are talking pardons. Frankly, pardon/pardons might very well be a death knell for the pugs.
