Did anyone hear that Indian tribes/reservations
may start offering abortions if the S. Dakota bill becomes law

quote......
Oglala Sioux Tribe President Cecelia Fire Thunder says a clinic on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation could provide abortions if South Dakota’s new abortion ban goes into effect.

“We’re working on it,” Fire Thunder said in a telephone interview Friday. “This is a free-choice issue. If I were in that situation, I’d want somewhere to go where I’d be taken care of.”

end quote......

I believe there was only one abortion clinic operating in South Dakota before the new law, so this will address that need.

Another beatdown at Little Bighorn. :)

3. I saw that lady who comes to SD
and performs abortions interveiwed yesterday on that CNN 2 network. She seemed level headed and down to earth. Shes retired and flies in from another state once a month to SD. She has to go in the back door so the fundies dont kill her.

4. Yes, and if she needs to follow through, her tribe
may suddenly find itself embarrasingly rich. I know I'll contribute, and I know a lot of prochoice women all over the country will, also.

Right now, it's going through the courts. The law will be struck down at the lower level and then go to the USSC. If the USSC is wingnut enough, we may see the end of Roe and the protection it has offered half the population of this country from back alley butchery.

6. First Casinos, Now Abortion Clinics?
Interesting ways to make money

just thinkin'

(flame suit on)

Seriously, I think South Dakota's law is tragic, and will likely never be put into practice unless the supreme court declares all abortion illegal.

But an Indian Reservation "looking at it"

sounds strange to me

but we live in strange times

(for anyone who read this far before responding to my post, I thank you!)

7. You're right ,it is tragic
BUT If SCOTUS overturns Roe or sends it back to the states we may need the reservations. I wonder how the law is written. CAN ANY doctor perform an abortion on the reservation or ONLY Indians?

8. I Think Reservations Are Generally Looked At As Sovereign
nations unto themselves (at least partly)

I know that they have their own law enforcement

I would think that the Docs would work for the reservation and be exempt from any state laws if they were on the reservation.
