Help! I'm wounded by the John Perkins/Amy Goodman Interview |
|
I can't stop thinking about the interview and WHAT he DID IN MY NAME for decades. I REALLY want to try and NOT buy products/food from countries we have exploited. I have no idea how to start. Any ideas.....any websites?

1. I didn't see the interview |
|
but I am so fond of Amy Goodman. I want her to be my mother. Or big sister.
But I'm confused why you wouldn't buy from countries we have exploited. Wouldn't that just hurt the exploited ones? Explain to me, because as I said, I didn't see it.

2. I didn't see it, either, but, maybe, the idea is that... |
|
...demand for products from those countries creates the market which, in turn, leads to further exploitation of their citizens.

religiously. For me it means, USA only when possible (Salvation Army and other thrift stores come in very handy, Vintage = USA most of the time. If you like the pottery barn and the Gap, it may be hard for you. Luckily I live in the Bay Area, so I shop at farmer's markets and other locally owned groceries. I've been noticing most of the Easter candy is not being made in USA, save for peeps (thank god) and Ghiradelli is good choice. I read his book too, checked out from the library, of course, very good.

9. If you can't find American, buy Canadian. |
|
I have a Canadian sink and Canadian kitchen cabinets (recently purchased).
I look for American. When I can't find it, I look for Canadian. After that, I look for a country that pays a living wage (France, Italy, etc.)
It's the best you can do.
Food is difficult because it is unlabeled. If you can buy at a farmer's market, you'll get locally grown food. Otherwise, it may come from a foreign country, and you'll never know. In the supermarket, iceberg lettuce is from California. Because it is wrapped, that is printed on the label.
Just do your best. Read all labels.
