Marching TONIGHT
I am not big on crowds, etc....My undocumented Mexican wife went to the big march last month in downtown L.A. with her friend. I was also pleased to learn my politically apathetic son (1/2 Mex) went with his girlfriend, although I think it was her active motivation that prompted him. Nonetheless, he went, which is cool.

I saw the results of the poll that said more than 60% of Americans believe people like my wife ought to be considered felons. That is scary. We are regressing as a society and I am seriously worried about the future. Anyway, like I said, I am not into crowds, etc..., but FUCK IT. I am going to the immigrant march tonight with my wife. I am sick of these right-wing racist fuckers spewing hate and intolerance. I am writing this as my felonious wife just left to go take care of the little rich white boy whose parents prefer to leave the parenting of their child to an "illegal Mexican."

2. What a Turnout !
Too bad the progressives can't seem to get the same organizational abilities as the Immigration march organizers. The left needs to take a page from their playbook! More here: http://postanapology.blogspot.com/2006/04/ducking-immigration-even-libs-dont-get.html#links

4. I just heard on the news that Tyson closed their plants today.
To accommodate the workers.

No one ever does that when progressive want to march.

3. The marches have had an immediate effect of elevating public attention
and unfortunately, some of it has been good, and some of it negative. The showing of mostly Mexican flags at the big demonstrations last week seems to have awakened some latent xenophobia. I noticed that in some of yesterday's demonstrations there was a conscious effort to fly American flags along with Mexican flags. It will be interesting to see if this sways public opinion back to a more moderate position.

We can't go on with a system that encourages illegal immigration. It's just wrong on so many levels. If we need the workforce, we owe it to everyone to fix or abolish the immigration quota system and replace it with something that is more aligned to the workforce needs.

It was a bit of a culture shock when I moved to California to hear wealthy people talk openly about exploiting "Mexicans" (any Latino is called a Mexican among these exploiters, I've noticed.) They don't even hide the fact that the motivation is to save money. If we ever start prosecuting employers I'd love to see it start with these pompous asses.

6. Welcome to DU, AztecGringo!
The right-wing will shudder in their shoes before this day is over!

Whenever working people take action, the conservatives try to force them back down, into "their place". The sight of millions of protesting Americans, united and powerful in their cause, has caused those right-wing cowards to "show" themselves for what they truly stand for.

This bogus legislation suggested to solve the "immigration problem" that Republicans so righteously proclaim is the cause of every woe in America is now ON THE TABLE, for real. Millions are demanding respect, their rights as human beings and workers in this country, and an end to the discrimination they've suffered for decades under this system.

The Workers, United, Will Never Be Defeated!

I, too, am there!

9. Big problem with this immigration bill; it's EX POST FACTO
This bill will retroactively turn immigrants who are already here, and who have been here for years, into felons overnight if this immoral, evil, and unconstitutional bill becomes law.

The "felons" do have hope: it's the Constitution, and this would be an ex post facto law if passed. You can't make criminals out of people who did something that was not a crime at the time they did it.

Oops, I forgot....the Bush regime shredded the Constitution 5 years ago.
