So, have your taxes gone down? |
|
Mine went up.
The tax changes took effect 01 January and even my first paycheck (half of which pertains to time worked in December) shows that somebody, somewhere, had to take out more in tax money.
I wish our politicians would tell us the truth about taxation.

11. you say Yikes. well let me tell you a little story. we were living |
|
in new york city, both working making about $100,000 between us. no house, no 401k. deducted as much as we could and still wound up paying a total of almost $48,000 in taxes. that includes the FICA. our accountant said "you guys have got to buy something this is crazy". a few years later we moved to phoenix and bought a house. our state taxes here are 1/2 what they were in new york and we also paid city tax in new york which was about what our arizona state tax is.
so Yikes Yikes Yikes.

3. Haven't seen my latest pay stub yet but |
|
got a call from my manager that my company cut my travel time pay by $5 an hour, retroactive to January 1.
It was their "Happy New Year" present to us all, all across the country.
I don't understand how my time, whether driving to a place or doing the actual work, is worth less for one task than it is for another. I HAVE to drive there so it is required. I can't change how long it takes for me to get from point A to point B. Why is that time, required to perform my job, worth less than the time it takes me to do the job when I get there?
That is a tax increase to me.

My taxes resulted in me taking home a whopping extra $4.37 during the last pay period. I'm going to invest that right into defense stocks and then pretty soon I'll be swilling champagne with my republican buddies on a yacht provided by some lobbyist.
If my math works out properly I'll probably save an average of about $17/month over the year, meaning that my entire tax savings will go up in smoke the next time they come to fill the oil tank. Almost all of what I "save" in taxes is taken up by increases in the health insurance.
