Let's roll: Jennifer Chrisler gets ready for a White House Easter

A large contingent of same-sex couples and their children will participate in this year's White House Easter Egg Roll -- an historic first in the event's long history.
News about the families' participation caused some furor among religious conservatives, who accused the LGBT participants of "hijacking" the venerable family event scheduled for April 17. But the fuss has not stopped hundreds of same-sex households from signing up, says the Family Pride Coalition, which organized the big gay outing.
Jennifer Chrisler, executive director of the Family Pride Coalition, has been involved in planning this activity for nearly a year. She spoke with PlanetOut by phone from her home in Washington, D.C., after putting her twins in bed for the evening.
How did the Family Pride Coalition get involved in the Easter Egg Roll event?
It was actually two of our members, a couple from New York named Colleen and Alisa, and they had gone last year with their daughter, Ella. They thought it would be a great way to showcase LGBT families to the American public, so they called me one day and said, "We have this great idea, and we're wondering if you want to do it with us because you're the national LGBT family organization."
