WOWIE! If only Democrats could get together and rally like this |
|
regarding voter's rights and electronic voting. These immigrants protesting around the country are more than the amount of troops we have in Iraq?
Unreal. They are speaking everything in Spanish. How the heck are we suppose to understand? I don't speak Spanish unfortunately. What's sad is they are out protesting and nothing is going to get passed. You know, just like when we can get some together to protest certain causes. They don't listen to us either. One difference, there are lots and lots and lots of immigrants coming out and really showing their numbers.
Anyone think that these large immigrant protests will "scare" the Congress and the idiot known as Bush to pass some half ass bill?
Our government cannot even keep our borders safe, nor our ports, and still have not completely done everything they could for airline safety. But Big Boy Bush thinks he can look the other way for 11-12 million immigrants to come into this country (or make themselves known 'cause they are already here), give out temporary green cards, do background checks, make them pay a fine.
Hell, Homeland Security could only come up with a color-coded threat level and when it got high, we were to stock up on duct tape and plastic wrap.
Puhlease don't embarrass this country anymore neophytes. For the love of God this country cannot take much more.

1. We do, the media just doesn't cover it |
|
The sad fact is, although gigantic protests have been held across the United States protesting the war, the WTO and other issues, the media just decides for the most part not to cover it. Now all of the sudden they are covering this extensively; it makes my mind reel.

I'm beginning to think these immigrants deserve to live in this country *more* than we do -- we just sit on our fat asses, while they're actually standing up and demanding the right to live here.

3. Agreed. We need to take a cue from them, and start acting like Americans. |

4. Did you just see the man from Argentina on CNN? |
|
He's in the NYC crowd and has family in SA. He overstayed his work visa and is now illegal. His name was even given on camera. he seemed totally unafraid and declared that he wants to stay here legally.

to pass anything.. It's just a ruse to yank some chains.. I called it on DAY ONE.. But deep down, I also knew that the "media" would grab onto it like a starving dog on a rancid porkchop...and so they did..
It's just a clever way to scare the "base" into thinking they are being overtaken by brown people..and a way to get the dems to divide up along racial lines ..again..:(
No one spent much time debating the ONLY things that WOULD work.
Going after EMPLOYERS is the only avenue of true reform.
CONFISCATION of the business, and a minimum 5 yr jail sentence of anyone who hires an undocumented worker would scare some people into stopping it..
If US public services are intended to be for citizens, then start demanding proof of citizenship...and just issue all citizens a passport or citizenship ID card (that would solve VOTING ID issues too)...but all are afraid of the libertarian streak in so many people who are looking over their shoulders for black helicopters, as they go online and type in all kinds of information as they order the latest iPod.
They could also RAISE the minimum wage to $10 an hour. People who like to hire cheap labor, might think twice is they could hire a college kid who speaks english for $10 and hour and WAS a citizen, before they paid $10 an hour for someone who could cause them to LOSE their business..and put them in jail

6. God bless those that oppose 4437 |

I hit the streets on Friday with a bunch of hispanics in Newburgh. It rained, and it was one of the biggest protests in Newburgh's history.

7. Our young men and women are dying for a lie (not to mention the |

Iraqi's who are being killed and have been killed)
It makes me sad, really, to think that jobs and immigration whip up more frenzy then the lives of people.
Very sad.

8. I think it's all sanctioned by the WH. |

I posted this earlier:
This doesn't smell right. Where are the cordoned-off "free speech zone" areas? The lines of policemen dressed up in riot gear? Why are these protests getting media attention when news about anti-war/Bush protests in the U.S. can only be found in UK media? When the U.S. does cover anti-war/Bush protests, it's usually just a blurb with disinformation intended to minimize the actual number of participants.
I have to ask, what does this administration gain from allowing such large masses to protest unhindered by restrictions/intimidation? It’s awfully massive & well-organized; is this administration allowing this to occur -- or, perhaps, spear-heading an underground campaign/movement -- to light a fire under its base so that their enraged feedback will provide the political leverage he needs to create an immigration policy that will anger pro-immigrants? Or to produce a startling visual for its base in order to show that dim-son’s back is against the wall & he has no choice but to create a policy that will anger his base?
I’m very skeptical at the freedom to protest given to these masses that anti-war/Bush protesters aren't afforded. Just ask Cindy Sheehan!
