Does anyone else see the pattern here?
How the American people are being manipulated to hate their neighbors, co-workers, friends and family members?

Does anyone else see the true agenda here, the mission to divide the American people so they won't get smart and realize the true division is between us, the people, including the immigrants, homosexuals and churchgoers; and them, the political elite, the corporate kings and the right-wing fascists.

Why can't people see the obvious?

A sampling of today's threads.

2. Yes - I see it
Outright hate and lots of resentment are the way the rw want the ignorant masses to behave. What is so scary is how willing people are to obey.
My golden rule: Beware those who seek to share their enemies.

3. You are spot on, Raging.
I'm also dismayed about how the fundementalists have put a stigma on religion with their nutty views. I count that into the unhealthy, contrived divisiveness by this government.

Rove seems to think that if you appeal to people's base prejudices, you'll never go wrong. And sadly, it looks like he's right.

5. I have always said as a nation we will have to come together
to overcome our situation... The divisiveness is there for a reason... They fuel it, and want to keep it that way... That's why it works for them...

6. There are people who feel that by indulging these hatreds,
they somehow become part of the elite. It's completely irrational.

Yesterday, Mark Crispin Miller said, that when the RW demonized their opponents, then the end (election fraud, for example) justifies the means.

I think the corrolary is, when you drink the king's kool aid, you feel closer royalty.

And, they don't even notice that it isn't their beloved Felon in Chief that spouts these hatreds but his midlevel managers.

7. By dividing us, they can put their spin on..
what they see as the "right" side. We must be effective at countering that spin. President Clinton did have a grasp on the RW's tactics on this.

8. Media Manipulation, disinformation and propaganda
"I see in the near future a crisis approach which unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic destroyed." - Abraham Lincoln, after the failure of Liberty to fully dis-establish and break the back of Southern Christian-Socialist fascism, which supported slavery, resulted in the US Civil War which he had been forced to expend great political capitol to win.

Whenever the focus turns to evil, Satan-worshipping, bloodthirsty Christian-Socialism and it's complimentary and equal partner-enemies, Jewish Socialism, Islamic Socialism or back to the old saw against 'Godless' Marxist Non Religious-Socialism, it's time for a new mass media topic, thus we see Senators using opthamalogic drugs to trip nerve gas detectors (increasing national insecurity), agitators like Lou Dobbs preying upon Latinos to rouse hatred, or perhaps even another 'burning the Reichstag' 9/11 Daniel CHapter 8 Show.

Britain's MI6-CIA Military Industrial Anglican Crusader Mafia dictatorship over this planet must be smashed, disbanded and destroyed, or it will certainly destroy not just Liberty but all life on this planet.

10. George Carlin put it best:
"There's three types of people in this world:

The rich make all of the money, pay none of the taxes.

The middle class pays all the taxes, does all the work.

And the poor are there, just to scare the shit out of the middle class. Keep them showing up at those JOBS.

But the rich keep us fighting with each other so that they can run off with all the fucking money. That's why they bring abortion, homosexuality, anything to keep us fighting with each other so they keep running to the bank."

11. Bread And Circuses.
And reality TV is perhaps the biggest. From all those Judge shows to Survivor to whatever the flavor of the month is, they want your indignation and hatred focused squarely on some other poor working schlub, while another rich old man stuffs a few more millions under his shirt.

12. Machiavellian approach to governance
This is from an old DU thread by chaska. I've read the book, too, and, so, I keep her thread in my bookmarks to remind people of her message:

ATTENTION PLEASE: If you never read anything else read these bullet points

This is from Power Down by Richard Heinberg. It's one hell of a great book on peak oil. I just this moment read the following on page 68. The chapter is about the GW Bush administration. My heart started pounding when I read this.

Neoconservatism is the intellectual offspring of Leo Strauss (1899-1973), a jewish scholar who fled Hitler's Germany and taught political science at the University of Chicago. According to Shadia Drury in 'Leo Strauss and the American Right' (Griffin, 1999), Strauss advocated an essentially Machiavellian approach to governance. He believed that:

A leader must perpetually deceive those being ruled.

Those who lead are accountable to no overarching system of morals, only to the right of the superior to rule the inferior.

Religion is the force that binds society together, and is therefore the tool by which the ruler can manipulate the masses (any religion will do).

Secularism in society is to be supressed, because it leads to critical thinking and dissent.

A political system can be stable only if it is united against an external threat, and that if no real threat exists, one should be manufactured.
