Senator Frank Church chaired the Senate Hearings on the FBI’s Cointelpro operation, which spied upon & attempted to INFILTRATE, DISRUPT & DISCREDIT the peace movement, even Martin Luther King Jr.

"if a dictator ever took over", the NSA “could enable to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back.”

From James Bamford’s NSA, the agency that could be Big Brother, Senator Church:

“That capability at any time could be turned around on the American people, and no American would have any privacy left, such is the capability to monitor everything: telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn’t matter. There would be no place to hide.”

He added that if a dictator ever took over, the NSA “could enable to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back.”

At the time, the agency had the ability to listen to only what people said over the telephone or wrote in an occasional telegram; they had no access to private letters. But today, with people expressing their innermost thoughts in e-mail messages, exposing their medical and financial records to the Internet, and chatting constantly on cellphones, the agency virtually has the ability to get inside a person’s mind…

“I don’t want to see this country ever go across the bridge,” Senator Church said. “I know the capacity that is there to make tyranny total in America, and we must see to it that this agency and all agencies that possess this technology operate within the law and under proper supervision, so that we never cross over that abyss. That is the abyss from which there is no return.”

2. I'm proud to say that Frank Church was my IDAHOAN Senator...

back in the day. I believe he was one of the greatest U.S. Senators that ever lived and served.

Try not to judge the state of Idaho by the current useless a$$clowns in office. There was a time when Idaho produced the VERY best of the best. Maybe we'll get back there again.

3. I've had enough...but

Many of us have our eyes wide open to what Bu$h and his openly fascist gang is doing and plans to continue to do. Nevertheless, how do we stop them short of doing things that will just give them further grounds to speed up the process? How do we fix the voting system now almost completely compromised by Bu$hCo lackey Corps.? It seems to may of us that Bu$hCo et al. has purposely and systematically closed off any avenues or methods by which meaningful chnage can now or ever again occur in this country. They are carefully creating a Democratic facade to hide the tyranny and it's machinery. The worse part of all of this is that the so called opposition seems to to either be in near total denial about all of this or worse in cahoots with these crooks and villians.

7. They're trying very hard

to close down every opportunity to achieve meaningful change, but there is a huge battle going on right now. Fortunately there are still conscientious professionals in the Justice Dept. and elsewhere in government--not to mention the Democratic Party--who are working to preserve our constitutional and legal rights. We must never give up.

Things have been awfully rough at other times in our country, and there have been many times when the situation seemed hopeless. We have bounced back before, and we'll do it again. But it's going to take a lot of hard work and determination on our part!
