Has it occurred to ** that Ahmadinejad would not be Pres in Iran |
|
were it not for **??
Sun Tsu, Art of War, know your enemy.
The Iranian people saw that we have a President who bunched them with Iraq and Korea in the "axis of Evil". Bush invaded Iraq on false pretenses. In their mind, they are thinking, "what is to keep him from invading us. What do we do to protect ourselves." To them, it is fight fire with fire. So, they elect Mr. Hardlinier than Hardliner Bush, about as dangerous a person as you can get to be a president. So, now we have to worry about some wacko nutjob getting nuclear capabilities. We haven't even found Bin Laden yet, we are in a quagmire in Iraq. Not a very good track record for someone who believes he will only have a legacy as a Commander in Chief. Well, as a CINC, you suck Bush! Your father at least knew to listen to his Generals.
Would we even be in this shithole of a mess were it not for the asswipe?

1. I noted this to a friend today -- you have to fight fire with fire |
|
We have our cowboy, so they had to get theirs. Had we kept our hands off the Middle East, the Islamic theocracy in Iran might have imploded by now (or been well on its way to doing so).

Look at it as being a woman living up the street from a known armed rapist. You know the guy raped the woman up the street, and he had a weapon. So, you want to get a weapon to protect yourself, and you get a gun, and you start dating some asshole so the rapist will leave you alone. But, the rapist says you have no right to have a weapon, only he can have one. What do you say to the rapist? Fuck you, I know you are a rapist, I am going to protect myself, why are you the only one that can have a weapon.
The thing is, it is scary that Iran is wanting nuclear weapons. I hope we can deal with it. Unless we know who our enemies are, and think from their perspective, even as wrong as it is, we will be screwed. No good detective can do his job without putting himself in the mindset of the criminal.

6. It's absolutely because of the chimp Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was elected. |

Mohammad Khatami, was by ME standards, a radical and a liberal. He tried to improve the status of women, and of young people, and tried to get around the "good-old-boy" style theocracy that ran everything. He also worked very hard with the U.S. (at least when Bill Clinton was in office).
Then came Bush, 9-11, "your either with us or against us", and the lumping in of everyone who wasn't Saudi Arabia or Israel in with the "Axis of Evil" (god, I hate that fucking term). Then the move of U.S. forces slowly across the desert, to now being right next door to them in striking distance.
Hell yeah, what do you think WE would do as a people in that kind of a circumstance?

16. When he used the "Axis of Evil" line, he told them we don't want to work |
|
with them. N. Korea's nuclear interests could have been curbed as well. But, we put them on the defensive off the bat.
Reagan was a bit of a big talker, but he also would at least sit down at the table and discuss things. Bush is more worried now about his legacy than anything. The legacy and politcal capital bullshit is his M.O. now. Before, he thought his legacy hinged on being a Commander in Chief. Well, he had a fuck of a chance to do a good job of it in Afghanistan, but obviously the guy who is responsible for the killing of 3000 Americans wasn't part of his legacy. So, on to Iraq. And, now that Iraq is a mess, his legacy supposedly is hinging on preventing Iran from going nu-cu-lar.
It really pains me to think that the first President to possibly use a nuclear weapon in a pre-emptive strike can't even pronounce the fucking word.
off rant again.

17. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that Ahmadinejad is messianic too |
|
There is a Muslim strain of thought that purports to restore some kind of messiah-type figure if global destruction is imminent.
And Ahmadinejad believes he is the one (just like Bush and Armegeddon) to bring about the requisite conditions to ensure the return of this messiah-type figure.
As an atheist, this type of thinking just makes me cross-eyed. But obviously enough people believe this is truth - enough so that a percentage will support nuclear wars in order to try to fulfilll the myths.
Does anyone know this legend that drives Ahmadinejad?
(goes off in search of Google....)

19. Ahmanadinejad wants the return of the Mahdi |
|
He believes he needs to set the stage for a return of the 12th Imam which is pre-ordained by global destruction. There's tons of info out there if you google it (sorry no link but it's a pretty widely known factoid I guess).
Yay.

11. A major magazine (can't recall which one)........... |
|
did a major piece on Iran a few years ago. Noteworthy was that something like 80% of the population there was under 30 and that in general the young people in Iran liked American culture and seemed to desire US "ideals and freedoms". The article stopped just short of saying that some kind of revolution and a turn towards democracy was imminent.
Fast forward a few years to the present, where Bush and his sabre rattling has sufficiently alarmed not only governments but citizens of other nations. While Iranians may have been inclined to move towards fighting for democratic values, they were left with only one choice in the recent election. They voted for safety and security over Democratic ambitions. 100% reflection of the goings on in our own government here. Bush and his neo-con pupeteers have nobody to blame but themselves for this.

13. This presidency has really screwed up the world. |
|
It is astounding to me how much bullshit this administration is capable of. It just never ends. Read about a goat on 9/11, not find Bin Laden, start a war on false pretense, out a CIA agent and endanger the cover of the other agents using her cover company in order to cover up the false pretenses used to go to war, wiretap illegally when a court is capable of granting warrants, play guitar while the gulf coast drowns, etc, etc.
I just ask myself when this will end, and find myself feeling great sympathy for the next President due to the awful mess they will have to clean up.
