That's two more than the whole of March.

Senseless.

The Pentagon was saying that we're supposed to be handing control over to the Iraqis, but soldiers are back on patrol to try to stem the civil war.

Americans back on patrol in Baghdad

American soldiers have again hit the streets of dangerous neighborhoods in western Baghdad that had been handed over to Iraqi forces, trying to keep a lid on sectarian attacks that have raged since the February bombing of a Shi'ite shrine in Samarra.

The U.S. military has refocused its mission to confront death squads that have tortured and killed hundreds, an acknowledgment that Iraqi troops have not been able to control violence between Shi'ites and Sunnis on their own.

While fewer attacks are now directed against Americans, the number of Iraqis found slain -- apparently in tit-for-tat killings by Shi'ite and Sunni extremists -- has sharply increased in the neighborhoods.

And Bush is still going around telling everyone that victory is just around the corner.

April 10, 2006

When Iraqis have such a government to lead and unite them, they will be in a stronger position to defeat their enemies and secure the future with a free country. When Iraqis have a democratic government in place, it will be a major victory for the cause of freedom.

2. We are not supposed to discuss this

Bush says if we discuss this it gives aid and comfort to the enemy.

We are only supposed to talk about schools in Iraq being painted by our Special Forces.

3. So much for the "stability trend"
The media was tauting the trending decrease in casualties recently. 33 this month already, so sad.
Fact is, until you posted this, I was not aware of this awful escalation of casualties. Is the media, like the administration, ignoring the horror?
