The Bible said it's OK to beat my daughter...sadly, Florida again. |
My Mom lives in Florida. So do a bunch of cousins and friends. Why does this shit always happen THERE. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-411spanking,0,7587683.story?coll=sfla-home-headlinesHe struck his 12-year-old daughter with belts because she lied, because her homework was incomplete and because "it is stated in the Bible that it is OK to spank your children," the father told police. The girl said she was beaten for not reading well enough, for using slang, and for "not accepting Jesus into her heart," police reported.

Lev 11:10 "And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which in the waters, they an abomination unto you:"

9. that is a fundie misinterpretation of the term "rod" |
The rod to which the Bible referred was not one used to strike a child. It was a rod that contained carvings, which carvings were used as a prop for parents and elders to tell the children the stories essential to the culture. Failing to tell children these important moral lessons is spoiling the children by sparing the rod.

12. I Got Beat By The Belt All The Time As A Kid. |
Had nothing to do with religion either. Just had to do with parenting at the time. Several times a week we'd get whapped with the belt from my father, and he'd terrify ya with that snapping sound the belt would make when he looped it end to end and pulled it inward and outward to let ya know he was on his way to whap ya LOL. That wasn't so bad though. After the divorce, when my mother became a complete and utter psycho, I didn't just deal with the belt, I dealt with the buckle of the belt. That was worse. But it had nothing to do with fundies, florida, the bible, or anything else. Back then parents simply got away with using the belt (though even then I'm pretty sure the buckle would've still been abuse lol). Thing is, I bet a bunch of us here got whapped with the belt as kids, for religion or not.
