Fletcher cuts worker protection
FORMER GOV. PATTON'S HIRING POLICY INCLUDED GAYS, LESBIANS
By Ryan Alessi
HERALD-LEADER FRANKFORT BUREAU
FRANKFORT - Gov. Ernie Fletcher declared yesterday "Diversity Day," then cut from the state government's employment policy a provision that explicitly protected gay workers from being discriminated against.

The move prompted criticism from a gay Republican group as well as Democratic lawmakers, who called it short-sighted for Fletcher to remove "sexual orientation and gender identity" from a list of characteristics the previous administration sought to shield from discrimination. They also pointed out the irony of making that change on a day meant to celebrate Kentuckians' diversity.

2. Perhaps he's trying to create his own symbolism?

By cutting out gays and lesbians on diversity day, he's emphatically declaring their second-class citizenship. This country, at least parts of it, get scarier by the minute.

And BTW: "criticism from a gay Republican group." Gay Republican group is a contradiction in terms.

7. If gays and lesbians are not afforded full rights, then they should
not have to pay taxes.

13. Ole Ernie has wrapped himself in the flag, used his bible as blinders
and proceeded to ignore our laws. When you are doing "God's work" earthly laws mean nothing.

Fletcher probably can't be re-elected; he's a dud. He may be lining up future speaking fees for appearances to the religious right (as a former gov.)

Excuse me, there are legislators to contact.

6. Notice the more corrupt and incompetent republicans are, the
more they pretend to be Christians.

Ernie wants to give Cumberland College millions of our tax dollars. No fucking way Jose.
