Immigration issues are just a diversion by Republicans
Don't you think all of this crap about illegal immigrants is just a shiny object Rove and BushCo have put out to divert a lot of people from the real problems? Seems to be working by dividing the Dems.

Why do we constantly allow this to happen?

For christ sake. Look at what has happened:

1. Libby fingered Bush (and not in a sick way but a way good for Dems.)
2. Bush poll numbers are worse than ever
3. Gas prices are going up which will impact #2 even more
4. Iraq is losing any pull with Americans--people want us out

And here we are bitching about providing services to illegals like we are some fascist country.

I think we need to KEEP OUR EYE ON THE FUCKING BALL and stop falling for all of these diversions. Happens every time Bush is in deep shit; we just let him go because "something shiny" comes by.

3. I totally agree and have posted this several times. Both the
immigration policy and the McKinney problem are both shiney objects that we need to ignore to keep our eye on the ball. We need to discuss Bush's failures with our friends and families, not these 2 subjects.

All emotional issues get a real workout. Too bad we can't learn that.

9. You should take a look
in some of the immigration threads. Check some of the responses in this one http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x904809 that I have been in.

You would be amazed at how progressive liberals let their hot buttons be pushed by this and you will probably be amazed at some of the bigotry in that thread.

13. Thanks... but I'll pass.
Because, sadly, I would NOT be surprised at how easily some liberals allow themeselves to be played by the right's games.

I would also NOT be surprised at the bigotry.

*sigh*

But thanks... just in case I ever start overestimating intelligence on our side of the fence, I'll have a handy link to remind me of reality.

GOING ON IN THE WHITE HOUSE! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE STORY ABOUT WE PSYCHOS WANTING TO DROP NUCLEAR BOMBS ON IRAQ! PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE NSA STORY AND WE PSYCHOS SPYING ON YOU!

I would have to agree with you. The immigration issue will DISAPPEAR after the elections.

10. It's dividing Repugs, that's more important
If anything, immigration is dividing the Repug party and peeling away support, and that's to our benefit. No matter what eventually passes, if anything, they'll never seriously crack down on illegal immigration or the corporations that hire undocumented workers. It's against their interests to do so. The Repugs are basically imploding over a gesture of willingness to act.

Dems can afford to sit back and enjoy the show on this one no matter how they feel about it.

12. No kidding.
These idiotic threads about how the immigration issue is a rovian plot fail to take into account that nothing short of Iraq, has caused bushco and the repubs more support. All you have to do is go check out that bastion of wingnuttery, freeperville. bush, once their dearly beloved fearless leader, has lost most of his support over there. Let me say this once again:

THE IMMIGRATION ISSUE IS DEADLY FOR REPUBLICANS.

Furthermore, it's not what's keeping the leak story from being the top story. We need more information from Fitz and more charges brought.

11. Absolutely. The only difference is...
...it doesn't appear that they're going to benefit from this diversion nearly as much as those of years passed. More and more, it looks like people are siding with Democrats, and further, they're completely losing the Hispanic vote by virtue of the fact that they're the ones pushing it.

15. Unfortunately for BushCo the people fought back in the streets.

They didn't like their lives being used as political pawns by the political strategists and the ploy has blown up in their faces.

The repugs are going to be paying for this attempt to stir up the worst in the American people for decades.
