Autopsy Links Cop's Death To 9/11 Dust
Autopsy Links Cop's Death To 9/11 Dust
NEW YORK, April 12, 2006

(CBS/AP)
The death of a 34-year-old police detective who developed respiratory disease after working
at ground zero is "directly related" to Sept. 11, 2001, a New Jersey coroner said in the
first known ruling positively linking a death to recovery work at the World Trade Center site.

James Zadroga's family and union released his autopsy results Tuesday, saying they were proof
of the first death of a city police officer related to cleanup work at ground zero after the terrorist attacks.

"It is felt with a reasonable degree of medical certainty that the cause of death in this
case was directly related to the 9/11 incident," wrote Gerard Breton, a pathologist at the
Ocean County (New Jersey) medical examiner's office in the Feb. 28 autopsy.

A class action lawsuit and families of ground zero workers have alleged that more than two
dozen deaths are related to exposure to trade center dust, which doctors believe contained
a number of toxic chemicals including asbestos and more than 1 million tons of tower debris.

The Zadrogas have not filed a lawsuit in connection with the death or their son, and have
no intention of doing so, CBSNews.com's Stephen Smith reported in February.
They hope to highlight the plight of other ground zero workers who have fallen ill.

Zadroga, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J., died in January of respiratory failure and had
inflammation in his lung tissue due to "a history of exposure to toxic fumes and dust,"
Breton wrote.

The detective spent 470 hours after the attacks sifting through the twin towers'
smoldering ruins, wearing a paper mask for protection.

Shortly after finishing his rescue and recovery work at the World Trade Center,
Zadroga developed a chronic cough, shortness of breath and acid reflux, Smith reported.
He was plagued by nightmares and headaches. Within months, he needed oxygen tanks,
antibiotics and steroid injections on a regular basis. He retired on disability in
November 2004.

5. It was Christine Todd Whitman

Who later left the administration to "spend more time with her family."

The lies were justified by the imperative national security goal of....wait for it.....reopening the stock exchange.

So some people had to die.... Warren Buffet and the rest of the 1% who own all the stocks needed to get back to day trading.

7. I can't believe anyone buys that crap about the stock exchange..
You mean to tell me that the very survival of our economy is tied to that one building? If anything ever happened to that building, it would be game over? Total collapse of our economy? There's no contingency plan for the survival of our economy and thus our country, without that building? I hope it's a little better constructed than all the world trade buildings turned out to be, according to their "findings".

To me, the stock exchange excuse is a ridiculous red herring. They couldn't afford to have all that evidence lying around. Any delay in getting the sight cleaned up would have only provided opportunity for collective voices to be galvanized on the necessity of closely examining the debris.

9. I believe they have DR sites in NJ.
Edited on Wed Apr-12-06 12:05 PM by iconoclastNYC
Most large corporations since the 1993 WTC bombing set up DR sites where all critical infastructure is duplicated. I don't know why the coudln't switch to thier DR site. I could have been a move just to maintain apperances.

As for 9/11 coverup. I do not endorese the official 9/11 conspiracy theory.

However it seems to me it makes it easier facilitate evidence removal from the site by saying : "the air is poision"...keeps people out of the area.

I think it basically came down to: big business was loosing money from that area being shut down and this administration serves big business above all esle.

4. But Christie Todd told us it was safe to breathe!
I mean she's a moderate Republican! How could she lie to us!!! It's her party too.

Seriously tho... We should be bringing this up....along with Katrina..... the consequences of a corrupt government affect us all in ways such as this.

At the time of the attacks I lived in the West Village in Manhattan. When the wings would shift I could smell ground zero. I didn't get occupational exposure like this man but who knows what I was breathing in.

The Bush administration says it was a matter of national security. So that's why they lied to say the air was safe to breathe even tho they had not done studies or surpressed studies that said the opposite.

Opening the stock exchange was more important then saving lives.

8. If only we had a bit more respect for our fellow man
If the truth had been told, and it was well known at the time, the workers there would have used protection and many families could have been saved so much pain. The priorities we have are enough to break your heart.
