Would be nice to think so, wouldn't it?

Would there be any point in Iran making nice with the "International Community?" Didn't help Saddam, did it?

1. coup
Immediate military coup here in the US. Hopefully benevolent. Probably our only chance. Congress too dependent on lobbyist money/special interest groups.

6. Also, substantial numbers of them think George is Jesus #2

metaphorically. And literally, in some cases, I suspect.

The Air force is a bit odd these days.

10. It depends
on what "on edge" means. Sy Hersh does not mention names but he has been right about many things. They may be moved by the use of nuclear weapons or impending economic disaster(what would be the aftermath of an attack on Iran)

4. keep spreading the word, experts say Iran is 10 years away from
having the bomb.

This is the second expert I've heard say this. The first was a guest on The Daily Show. Don't remember his name.

5. I'm not convinced that this will change... anything...

Cos it's georgie porgie that has his finger on the button and not you or I or the media or anyone with any brains. And no-one can stop him.

I self deleted my post because someone here posted a link to Juan Cole's article. It wasn't that I wanted the name of the guy so much as I wanted to know if yesterday's news about Iran having produced enriched uranium changed the 10 year time table. According to Cole it does not.

(I saw your post and tried to reply but I guess when I self deleted it...vanished! Thanks for remembering the guy from Jon Stewart and providing the link to the book.)

13. If Iran had the bomb today, would they launch an attack on their
geographically close enemy Israel? In that case, the prevailing winds would blow the radiation right back over Iran. Plus, they would be jumped on by the rest of the world. Or, would they decide to attack the U.S. with a couple of nukes? What could they possibly gain from such a boneheaded move.
Or, would they store nukes to be used only if they are pre-emptively attacked by some genius like Bush? They know that the Bushco is after the oil.

7. If I knew anyone in Iran I'd tell them to move as far away as possible
...from any sites related to nuclear energy & research. But other than that, I believe Mad King George will do what he likes regardless of what anyone says and nothing we do will stop him.

11. If Russia and China would publicly threaten U.S. with nuclear annihlation
if U.S. resorted to first use of nukes, that might put the nuclear option back in the box.

Likewise, if Iran could form a mutual defense pact with Russia and\or China (similar to what Poland had with France and Great Britain pre-1939), that might act as a check.

I'm not enough of a geo-strategist to be able to think these scenarios all the way through. But I have become convinced that the rest of the world is going to have to unite against us to save the world from us. I'm really sorry to have to say that. I never thought I would.
