8. Watch Lou Dobbs -- Butcher at large LOL
He's sharpening his knife as we speak... There going to run out of top leadership at this rate. Generals care for their troops and are sick of stay an ametauristic "stay course" strategy, which is no strategy at all.

12. RIGHT!!!
Stay the course is not a strategy, it's a sound byte!!

And 'we'll stand down when they stand up' is also not strategy. If that's the case, we'll be there forever...........

4. Did they say why he resigned?
Did he pipe up, get honest, and fail to select for promotion? Or any one of the foregoing?

It'll be interesting to hear from him once he's collecting his check on the first of the month...

Wonder when his last day on ACDU is, between leave and whatnot? Odds are good he has 60 on the books--they never let you take leave from those jobs. With any luck, we'll be hearing from him by summer!

5. more relevant question: who would replace him?
My sense is that everyone involved would be pleased to throw him overboard if they could get anyone else to take the job. I can't imagine anyone wants it, though, because all Rumsfeld's replacement will be able to do is preside over the ultimate failure and pullout.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

Making yes-men into generals gets GIs killed and loses battles.

Is there any wonder why there have been "thousands" of mistakes in our prosecution of Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL)?

21. Either that, or when he calls them on the carpet, they want to be able to
sit their asses down while they are getting their asses chewed for hours on end.

Rummy must have hemorrhoids--he does NOT sit. He has this stupid desk, it is like a drafting table, and he STANDS at at in his goofy hiking boots--sometimes for hours.

A Vietnam type war should only come once in a Super Power's lifetime. If George Bush had participated in that war, it would have.

39. In the NPR "Fresh Air" interview, he said Rumsfeld was interfering
with the Pentagon in the promotion process from 3-star to 4-star general.

Apparently, the Pentagon has always done this without input from the SOD, but now Rumsfeld in overseeing these promotions.

Wonder if BushCo wants to replace these retiring top brass with "Stepford Generals"

40. It's extremely rare in history. Likely a new record in US military actions
Let's recap: Borrowed more money than all other Presidents combined.
Got away with more high crimes than any US President.
Gave more tax breaks and loop-holes to the ultra-rich than any other President.
Exported more jobs than all presidents combined.
Spent more on defense than any other president.

you know -- in retrospect the generals lost thing isn't such an impressive record, is it?

42. thanks. i thought it pretty unprecedented, but i have a limited grasp on
war history. i have always hated war, and dislike hearing about it more than necessary. (that means getting the basics - who did what, to whom, why, and what were the underlying motivations - and what new atrocities were invented or rediscovered this time around)
