Not word one about immigrants for 5 years until Uncle Karl speaks.
Homos aren't a safe target this year, better go after them wetbacks. So Karl sets the agenda, and instead of talking about a President who illegally spies ON HIS OWN PEOPLE (to recall the Saddam meme), instead of talking about $3.00 a gallon gas, the media and Congress declares an immigration "emergency".

And like a bunch of saps, some Democrats take the bait like trained seals. Oy.

edit: BTW, "Jesus" is being used as "Oh Jesus" NOT that gay Mexicans are named HAY-ZOOS ;)

4. I'm not sure Uncle Karl started this.
It has become a distraction from real issues like you mention. But there has been a lot of talk about border security what with the selling off of our security infrastructure like the Dubai port deal and all the phony talk about our "War on Terror". People started to notice that our borders are wide open, and what good is spying on citizens if anyone with a bomb can get into the US? All this BS about our "War on Terror" is what started people realizing that for a country, that according to the crazy king George, is at war, we sure have our arms wide open to anyone and everyone with some money or a bomb.

I think it is the natural outcome of the rhetoric spewed by the administration. True the administration has turned it into a screen for cover but they do that every chance they get. The immigration issue was bound to come up, it was just a matter of time. The right-wing wackos had to eventually wake up from their wet dreams and realize all them brown skin people were here. The liberals were only too willing to defend illegals, and now you got the two at each other. Great for the crazy king George, bad for the rest of us.

Somewhere between the wackos and the willing liberals there is a humane solution but you got to wait until citizens come out of their corporate media induced stupor.

5. You're wrong.
Just flat out wrong. Immigration has been an issue for years, more on the right than on the left, but it's been there, merrily simmering away. That you haven't been focused on it, hardly means it didn't exist as an issue to many people. As for it being a rovian plot; absurd. This issue has hurt repukes more than any other issue. Period.

Sad that so many people are unable to realistically analyze the true situation.

14. What base does this shake up more?
I wish you would tell me how this is a 'winner' for us? The loudest rhetoric I am hearing is from the "build a big fence and keep them Mexicans out" Minutemen crowd. Do enlighten me.

7. Why doesn't anyone think we can multi-task?
We are all more than capable of discussing multiple issues of varying importance at a time.

Often times, the longest threads around here are all about some inane movie-of-the-week type story or some petty flamefest that has minimal, if any, real importance.

The illegal immigration issue isn't one that just popped out of nowhere, it's been brewing for years. I just wish there wasn't so much emotional knee-jerking surrounding the issue so we could discuss it like the smart, rational people we all are.

except for Bluebear! Thank goodness he's here to tell us which issues we can and cannot discuss--otherwise lord only knows what kind of mischief we would get into!

Right on schedule...Karl's still got his "groove"

Look at any "news" show and what do you see?

IT'S THE DOUBLE D PLAN IN ACTION

Divide & Distrust

All the nasty divisive stuff is bubbling up...can't you hear the burbling and oozing??

Immigration (racist undertones & all) is the headliner ..7 months before the election, the one thing that has to happen is for democrats to be put on the spot about this age-old issue.

Since we have been a country,(and before that) we have had northward immigration. If we built a 50 ft wall, they would build 55 ft ladders..

Immigration is an issue that republicans can win on...because as much as they pretend to "like Mexicans", everyone knows that "their" Mexicans are loyal toadies and are not rank and file "folks"..

BUT getting democrats to bite on this issue will hurt their standing in the hispanic communities and the republicans KNOW it..

Immigration is NOT a campaign issue, since NO ONE person's beliefs on the issue will make a bit of difference.. If it were an easy issue to "fix", it would have been done years ago.

It's an issue that just gets pushed onto the next congress and the next and the next.

............................................

Another pet issue that always gets people to divide up..abortion...Look at all the states (red ones) that are gleefully setting up SCOTUS cases and creating odd law to divide the voters ..

............................................

And just in case the media , still reeling from being hornswaggled over the war, continues on their path to finally start telling some truth, ...well... we have the "Poor-W-The-Media's-So-Mean" tour out there creating a new myth.. The Media is out to get him, and cannot be believed.. This one's right on schedule too, because if they are to steal another election ("the quad-fecta"), they must have people believing that the media is wrong..

The media is, after all, saying things like. "Democrats are leading".."Democrats might re-take congress".etc..

In order for the "steal" to work, the people must be prepared in advance to DISTRUST what the media says.

There are SEVEN months left...plenty of time for Karl to spin a new web..

So far the plan is working too. The media folks are trying harder than ever to "be fair", "be balanced", and are wasting lots of time trying to find "good stuff" to report, lest they continue to be attacked by the slime machine..

What they SHOULD be doing, is shining a light on the PLAN afoot, instead of thinking they can still have it both ways..

They tried that tack on the war, and it did not work out so well for them...

They should start out every report with ..." The adminsitration wants us to believe x-y-z-, and wants us to report ....

BUT we feel that the public needs to know about :

the environmental calamity approaching
the sorry state of health care in America
the vast numbers of people NOT even included in the unemployment reports
the sad state of college financing
the increasing of foreclosures
the increasing interest rates
the obesity crisis and its connection to "corporate-food"
the gasoline crisis
etc
etc

10. I think you've nailed it. And isn't it amazing how Fux and the other
propaganda channels conveniently cover the street demonstrations, while they COMPLETELY IGNORED the huge numbers of people who demonstrated against the fraudulent Iraq venture in early 2003?

11. You have a point No Exit.
The unprecedented coverage these protests get is amazing. They even get Democratic leaders to come out. I've been to DC to protest against the war and all we got was letters from some actors supporting us. I think the corporate media has given the OK to cover these illegal immigrant rights protests because they will benefit from an unlimited pool of willing low pay workers. What is good for corporate America is good for KKKarl and friends.

12. None of you folks ever
address the fact, and it is a fact, that this issue is terrible for repubs? Truly awful. It's chipping away at support for bushco and the repub party. Actually, it's doing more than merely chipping. If rove is so bloody brilliant, how come he failed to take this into account?

16. It was done to rile up their right-wing base, get them to the polls, and
perhaps to bring some Democrats along with them. Lou Dobbs is certainly doing his part to make this a war of the middle class against illegal immigrants. Didn't we read months ago that the Republicans were going to make illegal immigration a wedge issue for the mid-terms.

That it may back fire on them because the House Republicans tried to make illegal immigrants into felons--and then tried to pull it back with Sensenbrenner's amendment--is their just desserts. Hastert and Frist don't bother to mention that 65 Republicans voted against Sensenbrenner's amendment that would have reduced the penalty to a misdemeanor, rather than a felony--they would have none of that molly coddling.

The Democrats, on the other hand, wisely chose to let the Rethugs be hoist with their own petard. Kudos to Harry Reid!

17. I have always thought Fat Karl was just as brilliant as
were those people in my school who were cheating their way into the top 5% of the class. Fat Ass is not "brilliant" in the true sense of the word. He LOOKS "brilliant" to some naive people because he "wins" some spectacular victories. But he doesn't actually "win" in the true sense of the word.. he cheats. I could beat Tiger Woods at golf, you know, if I had a really good system for cheating...

Yes, this issue is terrible for the repukes. Thank you for reminding me. I always like a little day-brightener!:)

15. I notice hardly any of the pro-life idiocy either this time.
That Terri Schiavo debacle must have backfired on them and they are toning it down. This is another new issue that brings out a new worst in the American psyche and it's a plum that is ripe for the picking.

Wait until some of these poor, hapless migrants gets shot or even tarred and feathered ala KKK, then maybe the saner minds among everyone will sit up and say "wait a minute, I didn't sign up for this".

Let's hope we put this issue to rest before the November elections.
