Fantasic Pic! Harry Taylor questioning Bush vs Rockwell's "Free Speech"
Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 08:25 AM by HamdenRice
I came across this picture on Hannah's Blog. You may recall that in early April, Mr. Harry Taylor, citizen, broke through our "bubble boy" presidency's hermetic seal, by asking Mr. Bush some very tough questions and telling him that "I feel like despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administraiton," and "...I would hope from time to time that you have the humility and grace to be ashamed of yourself."

This occurred at a public meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.

If that photograph of Mr. Taylor confronting Mr. Bush looked iconic, it is because it evoked the famous painting by Norman Rockwell, that chronicaler of American values, called "Free Speech," which depicts another citizen speaking out at a New England town meeting.

Hannah's Blog put the two images, side by side, and it is heartbreaking, but in a good way:

5. And the snickering twit on the upper left
It's really too bad those unfortunate women were in the picture. I'm sure there were men and women in attendance who might have completed the Rockwell image.

7. Not that is not what she was doing
If you watch the clip, she is basically saying that Harry is whack. She does not appear to be "with him" on his questioning at all. It's quite entertaining to watch her go through all her faces as Harry is speaking, she is beside herself!

8. Wow! The chance of finding such a confluence must be like one in three
This has been making the rounds here on DU since about ten minutes after Mr. Taylor asked his question.

It's a clever juxtaposition, but I hope that no one reads anything into it beyond "nifty coincidence."

10. oh come on, of course coincidence, but that coincidence is stunning
and a wider shot of the audience would show more cringing or astonishment which is an updating of the Rockwell image that makes a statement about the reality of now
