NPR needs a wake-up call
Tonight on 'All Things Considered' NPR had 2 pieces on lobbyists, soft lighting the highlights of lobby lawyer practices, IMHO.

What Do Lobbyists Do?

The Work and Ethics of Lobbyists

Would if I could email NPR to tell them about how the pharmaceutical lobbyists wrote the critical language of *'s prescription program, or how lobbyists write the language of the 'earmarks' legislation that creeps into our laws and other instances of lobbyist written legislation.

Two problems:
1)I do not have reliable links to document these practices;

2)I do not have the email address of All Things Considered, to get in the message that lobbyists write our laws.

If you can resolve these 2 problems, PLEASE email NPR. NPR reads their correspondence on the air Thursdays.

1. NPR is a lost cause, honestly.
I gave up on them a few years ago, when they were insisting that any links between illegal activities on the parrt of Houston energy companies (Enron) and California's electric crisis were just liberal conspiracy theories.

5. They are controlled by the Right Wing... Tomlinson et al
Right wing appointments on both the CPB board and NPR board ...

double whammy - they were already right leaning with their news reporting in the 90's but now it's worse.

15. Thomlinson quit

I guess there was just one scandal too many.

I still enjoy Fresh Air and Selected Shorts on NPR.

4. In depth, but sometimes depth = piled high and deeper
I agree they have the most thoughtful analysis on cultural issues, but their political analysis is so bland and predictable. The talking heads they ask on to defend the bush administration are NEVER called on their lies, or their plain out avoiding the questions, its just often a chance for them to ignore the question and trott out a talking point.

I think they've gotten a bit better since they booted Tomlinson from the CPB, but they still have the republican lobbyist/fundraiser woman whose name escapes me right now as the chair.

7. I agree. They're not perfect, but they're better than most...
media sources, in my opinion.

8. Thanks much ben; if only I could find links to something I
read not too long ago about lobbyists writing legislation, I'd be in business. I know I saw it.

I tried going through my files, I tried Google; no luck.

Anyway ben, next time if I have the ammunition, I have someplace to fire it. Thanks again.

11. Then why didn't you kick it?
Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 08:42 PM by hootinholler
Just wondering. The two items I point to are the tip of the perverbial iceberg in Fisher's appointment to the Abramoff case.

This needs to become a campaign. I want to hear Republicans smacked down when they talk about liberal bias in the media.

Edited because I forgot my manners. Thank you for the compliment.

13. Honestly, I'm kind of lost in my own ignorance re Fisher, Abramoff
and all that connects.

For my personal edification, please feel free to lay it out. As I gathered from the first post of yours I read connecting Schorr and Fisher, Fisher was something of a crony.

And what is "kicking it?"

14. ??
... I read connecting Schorr and Fisher, Fisher was something of a crony.

Um if I said Schorr was connected to Fisher other than mentioning her in his report, I don't remember that nor do I see it on re-reading what I wrote. The problems with Alice have been published in other Abramoff threads.

Kicking is a reply to a thread, bringing it to the forum top, sometime with a kick title or a . title or a :kick: (kicking ass)

16. The NPR affiliate is the only decent station where I live
and the only refuge for anyone interested in intelligent programming (ie not "talk radio").
