Isn't it obvious why gas is going up?
They know a shitastrophe of 'biblical proportions' is coming for BushCo, they know that come '07 Lord Pissypants and Darth will be history and the 1st things that the newly installed (dem) President will do is a) force gas prices down b) institute a win-fall profits on the Oil Companies and c) investigate the hell out of them..

they're getting while the getting is good, load up the swiss accounts and getting ready to run like hell...

2. One of the main goals of Iraq was to drive Gas prices up to load the
pockets of BFEE and cronies with oil and war profits. So far they have succeeded admirably. The USA will go down the toilet, but Halliburton and the oil companies will be doing fine!!! Oh, and Wal-Mart will be fine too.

Someone has to be perky and ask (over and over), "Can I fill your waterglass?" as the SS United States is sinking.

5. One nation under oil
Yup, the gas companies are making out like fucking bandits right now, but they know their days are numbered for their greedy asses.

This is what I think the next (dem) president should do:

- Make it illegal for companies as big as Exxon-Mobil to hold bank accounts overseas

- Tax the hell out of them.

7. I heard an interesting theory on the radio about oil prices.
European gas prices have been much higher than ours for a very long time! The difference is taxes. Most european countries use those taxes to pay for infrastructure maintenance and national health care. The oil companies in the US believe that the US could go the same way, and if someone was going to convince the American people they have to pay more for their gas, THEY (the oil companies) were get in there first!

Interesting, but who knows.

8. You are right about where the money goes
Family in Europe explained it to me this way also. Their gas is expensive due to high taxes which are used for(fill in the blank). USA gas is expensive because the oil co are making shitloads of money off of us (their explanation: we are taking a risk so it is ok that we make shitloads of money off of you because you never know if we'll be able to tomorrow)

9. European gas remains much more expensive than ours.
But I agree that we should tax the hell out of it (also) because the environmental cost in 20 years is going to be staggering.

12. Tax it to pay off the Halliburtons and Exxons?
The tax cuts, the invasion of Iraq, and corruption of the Federal government have redirected our tax dollars to pay for things I don't want to pay for. Taxes for just about any purpose, no matter where we think they are going, will in the end be paying for this administration's misdeeds for a long, long time.

Peak Oil is here, my friends.

On edit: I meant we as in the average US driver, not most DU'ers. We seem more progressive than that :-)
