1. Actually, I found McCain to be very insulting toward his fellow |
|
countrymen. If I didn't already have a good job, I would sign up. He's sadly underestimating the determination of this German/Irish/English descendant.

|
Can you imagine that? I thought there would be thousands upon thousands.

14. How long has the job been posted? |
|
If that's what they accomplished in a couple of days of internet exposure, imagine what's going to happen when it hits the e-mail chain letter stage.

23. Re the Marines who killed yesterday |
|
I don't believe their names and ranks have been released, but, let's say, one was an E-3 with three years on AD. He was pulling a cool $1,692 a month. Let's include $300 hardship per month. Now, in theory, you're on duty 24/7, but let's be realistic and say 12 hour day, six a week. I'm figuring he made o/a $7.50 per hour.
Yes Senator, there are Americans who will do nasty jobs for far less than $50 an hour.
Dear God, sir, what a small fraction of a man you have become.

9. K&R'd. My fervent hope that his $50/hour offer gets traction |
|
I'll say it again--it was the most tone-deaf thing I've heard uttered by an nationally prominent politician in ages.
And I don't know why more people aren't giving him crap about it.

Rich people have no sense of what it's like for normal people. No idea at all.
Edited to add that you don't have to make a donation, so everybody who's interested -- even if you can't afford a donation -- can sign up. I think it's funny as heck.

in DC when the story first broke here, asked his staffer "Did the Senator want me to fax an application or did he want it by registered mail?"

Looking around their site, it's not a group I'd want to support financially.
However, they get a thumbs up for sheer snarkitude on this particular campaign.

Damn. Of course, one can't pick lettuce all year round...so, it's still not that great of a deal. If it was all year round....I'd do that job, work overtime on occasion and wouldn't even demand time and a half.

i worked for a Biodynamic/Organic farm CSA in trade for a share of vegetables for the season... big, but nothing like a Commercial operation. There were 300 and some odd shareholders so when lettuce was ready, you spent at least the whole morning picking (it wilts in the hot sun)... it is really hard work. But nearly everyone i know who can physically do farm work would jump at the chance to get paid $50 an hour for the season. I've got friends with degrees that are happy to be able to get a $12 an hour job with partial bennies because they've been out of work for 10 months, a year, or two. I betcha McCain wishes he could take that comment back!
