Remember the 10 words or less contest? I'm a finalist, please vote!!

The Heartland PAC sponsored a contest that asked the participants to describe the Democratic Party in 10 words or less.. My submission was "The Democratic Party: People are our only 'Special Interest.'" I was included in the top 10 finalists, and the voting is open now. If you could vote in this poll I would really appreciate it..

I know on the grand scale of things this isn't that big of a deal, but to me it really is.. Most of you know I'm a recovering rethug, and this is the first time I've ever felt like a real contributing member of the Democratic Party.. If it weren't for DU, and the souls here that helped me understand the error of my ways, I'd still be a koolaid sipping winger.. The biggest changes of my entire life have come in the last year, and I am a totally different person thanks to DU..

The 10 words I selected is a reflection of what I've learned here.. The rethugs focus only on the high dollar interest groups, and corporations that fund them, where as the Democratic Party values the hardworking men and women of this country that make this country great.. The Dems "special interest" is the American people.. Our government is for the people, by the people, and the only way to return the government to the people it belongs to is to elect Democratic leaders to every office on every level, local, state, and federal..

Thank you again, because if it weren't for DU, I would have never had this opportunity, and I wouldn't be the person I am today.. You guys mean so much to me, and regardless if I win or lose I'm just lucky to be a member of the best group of people on Earth..

26. I'm not going to deny that there are a few Dems that are less than clean,

but The problem isn't nearly as bad as it is on the other side of the aisle.. We need to identify the dirty Dems and remove them from office, and move on.. This is our party, and it's our job to keep it clean.. I'm not thrilled with every aspect of the Democratic Party, but I view the issues as fixable.. The alternative party is far worse in every way..

43. There are two dominant parties in this country, and that's just the way it

is.. I'll be the first to admit that it were different, I wish there were half a dozen viable parties.. I think it would keep the parties more honest, and more focused on serving the people they are supposed to represent.. Right now we have to work with what we have, and the Democratic Party, though not perfect, is by far the best game in town..

I live in Houston, in a very red part of Houston, too! Everyday, I get to see LOTS of SUV's with 'W' stickers still in the back window or on the bumpers! :puke:

My brother-in-law & sister-in-law live in Gainesville, and are VERY blue. I don't know what area of Florida you are in, but have hope, there are others there! Meanwhile, like you, I don't know what I would do without DU!! After the election in '04, DU saved me. And continues to be a bright spot each and every day! 37. I love living here, it's beautiful here.. Out of all the places I've ever

lived, I like it here best.. I get aggravated because the area is super red, and it's hard to find fellow progressives, but otherwise I love it.. That's part of the reason I spend so much time here on DU, if I didn't have this place I'd be pulling my hair out..
