Democrats in Congress don't need to know one more thing |
|
than they know today. They don't need to read more, hear more, think more, study more, investigate more, poll more, talk to their constituents more, go on talk shows more, or caucus more. They need to present articles of impeachment right this second and move forward towards eliminating the biggest internal threat to democracy that this country has ever faced and which, by the way, happens to be a far greater, more immediate threat than ANY external source.

What are they waiting for??
I don't think they will succeed, but nobody ever won a game by conceding.

8. And so you will blame the Dems in Congress if it doesn't happen, or no? |
|
I hope not. Because without a majority in Congress, and therefore without Republican support, it wouldn't be much more than some red meat thrown to the base, and that's about it.

7. And we would get the Republicans to go along with it how exactly? |
|
Because, without us having the majority, they would have to go along with it.

12. We don't strategize - we just do the right thing!! |
|
Events have a way of becoming larger than the individuals involved. This is the right thing at the right time and I am not kidding. You might be surprised at the "true" conservatives" and Republicans who despise what this President is doing just as much as you and me.

15. I find these impeachment threads a little amusing |
|
Your point is exactly right. The house seats don't change until Jan 2007
bush could rape nuns and molest little boys in broad daylight and if the GOP run congress does not move to impeach, it's all a moot point, if the objective is really to impeach him.
If the objective is too make his life miserable, we run the risk of becoming irrelevant.
Unless we win a majority in 2006 in both the house and senate, which is unlikely. We will gain, but to take control will be a real stretch

I think you are jaded beyond the pale. Cynicism - just another weapon to deflate the loyal opposition. Right - it really doesn't matter what Bush does - we're defeated before we start. And if we try and fail, we'll be gasp! irrelevant. Must wait for that perfect moment that (what a suprise) never seems to exactly arrive.

20. No, I'm not even remotely jaded |

I am a realist. I look you in the eye and tell you the truth realist.
To continually bring impeachment up as a viable idea while we do not have the ability to actually do anything about it, to me seems a huge waste of time. It may feel good to think about it, but it doesn't make it going to happen.
Energy spend on doing something that we don't have the ability to accomplish at the moment should be better spent on winning the 2006 election, so we can possibly bring impeachment charges.
Impeachment is a national issue. Your local congressional representative will win on local issues, not on the hope that he will impeach bush. To think otherwise is not facing political realities.
I promise you, we will not win back congress if we are running candidates on the promise they will vote to impeach bush.

21. I respect your view but we have clear differences |
|
You see impeachment as a political issue while I do not. You view gives little or no weight to the majority of the American public (clearly illustrated in poll after poll) who disagree with the policies of this President but who seemingly have no political voice whatsoever even though they may be the majority as we speak. You seem to be saying that no majority voice of the public may be heard unless they also have the representative votes in Congress which would also seem to mean that we can only expect to have voice or input in election years. I disagree. Things happen when they happen, whether it be an election year ot not. The "strategists" are why we are in the position we are right now.

13. I totally agree with this, but |
|
you must remember that the House is controlled by Republicans. We need enough Republicans to flip (not likely) or retake the majority in November (a possibility).
Now, as for yanking him out of his pretty white house and throwing him to the Hague....

If we do not respond as events dictate, then we can cynically be correctly called politically manipulative. There is no "perfect" time to impeach - are we supposed to wait until we have exactly the correct number of votes? There is such a thing as moral imperative. Let's all experience it.

19. You have stated the answer yourself |
|
We cannot impeach without the correct number of votes. the democrats do not control (have a majority in) the house. Without the majority, or as I stated, some GOP flipping, which is not likely, it is not going to happen.
I would like to think that there are enough republicans who would support it, but that is probably not the case.
