NEVER FORGET: White House misled US on 9/11 air safety
In the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center, the White House instructed the Environmental Protection Agency to give the public misleading information, telling New Yorkers it was safe to breathe when reliable information on air quality was not available.

That finding is included in a report released Friday by the Office of the Inspector General of the EPA, "EPA's Response to the World Trade Center Collapse: Challenges, Successes and Areas for Improvement."

"When the EPA made a September 18 announcement that the air was 'safe' to breathe, it did not have sufficient data and analyses to make such a blanket statement," the report says. "Furthermore, The White House Council on Environmental Quality influenced ... the information that EPA communicated to the public through its early press releases when it convinced EPA to add reassuring statements and delete cautionary ones."

On the morning of Sept. 12, according to the report, the office of then-Administrator of the EPA Christie Whitman issued a memo: "All statements to the media should be cleared through the NSC before they are released." .....

2. I'm not sure what people expected..
this administration has a bad track record with environmental issues. They had problems pre-2001 and they've had problems since.

4. This has nothing to do with a bad track record. This was DELIBERATE
to get people back to working and living near ground zero. You have to keep those stock markets going.. while first responders and residents of lower Manhattan in the THOUSANDS have respiratory illness.

7. Not only that, but they wanted to get the rubble and remains
of the Twin Towers hauled out of there as fast as possible so no investigation could be conducted.

3. "Defrauding the United States Government"...the Watergate charges.
There is Federal code that contains these words. It says, essentially, if you deliberately screw up, e.g. lying, sleeping at the switch, etc., then you're defrauding the US Government by taking a pay check and working for them.

Well, these people lied. Is the current US Government going to do anything about it. Nah...

Didn't think so.

Recommended and thanks for the reminder.

5. ABC Nightline just did a story on air quality post 9/11 at Ground Zero
ABC forgot to tell us that EPA reports for air quality in lower Manhattan were doctored.

Must be insignificant.

There's some interesting stuff in that dust. Like Uranium! 8 to 10 PPM.
