How Many Places Do You Go Where FOX Is On A TV?
I notice FOX everywhere. The local Sear store's automotive section has a little waiting room ... FOX all day long. Local Auto Parts place has a TV up on the end of the counter ... FOX all day long. Down at the Dairy Mart (local convenience store chain) there's a TV on the back wall ... FOX day and night. Electronics appliance store, 200 TVs; every shining Admiral, Toshiba, and Sony ... FOX open to close. You couldn't find anything else on a the TV in any VFW in this part of the world.

What is it about FOX that makes it the backdrop of choice so very often? Is it the bright colors, the constant movement on scree, flashy mindless video fireworks that never seem to end? I notice that no one seems to pay much attention to it, but of course its there all the time spreading its vile message subconsciously if nothing else.

Am I just overly sensitive to this? Do you notice the damnable FOX everywhere you go too?

Nowhere in Madison. At least not that I've seen. Probably gets watched in a few bars around town, but not the ones I go to.

3. You aren't imagining things. It's like they're Coca Cola or something.
It pisses me off too. I travel a lot and you can't go to an airport or a hotel where it isn't on. If you go to a restaurant, it's on many times in the waiting lounge.

Somebody turns those TVs to Fox. I wonder if they are all just in synch with each other or if something else is going on.

One of my most politically compatible friends even watches Fox, though I've told her about them and the lies. I don't get it. I never watched Fox even before Bush. They were and continue to be too elementary for me.

And since they seem to like comedy, I'd switch them all over to comedy central.

Television in public places is ALWAYS obnoxious.

Turn them all off and step away from the remote.

I never, ever see any television playing in a public place where it plays anything but FOX news. Ever.

ON EDIT...oops, I take it back. My dentist's office plays a loop of gum disease films on its teevee. I find them infinitely more enjoyable than five minutes of Fox News.

7. I work in a call center
One of the largest clients in the facility where I work is a satellite TV company. They have a lot of TV's all over the place, even in areas not used by the satellite company. Invariably, one will be set to Fox, one to CNN and at least one to ESPN. I can easily ignore them at least.

in Tennessee (I'm from NJ). As soon as I walked in, I asked "does anyone mind if I change the channel?" I got no response, so I changed it and muttered "sorry, can't deal with the propaganda channel".

Try it, you might be surprised at the reaction.

13. good observation
Absolutely true.

One of my favorite sandwhich shops has it on both televisions with signs that inform everyone "Do not touch television". Horrible. My pulimanry doctor has it on and he seems very anti-Bush. I don't get that one. It's everywhere.

On the other hand--most cable news is slanted right except for Olbermann on MSNBC perhaps. But Fox? Ugggh.

19. I was at my gym on the elliptical machine the other day
and luckily I had control of the remote. (It's a small gym.) I was watching local news, and it was the bottom of the hour so there were a lot of commercials on every local channel. A guy who had come in after I did, asked if I could change the channel to Fox. I said (very politely) "Sorry, I can't do that - it'll raise my blood pressure." "It will?" he asked. "Yep it will." I said. Damn that felt good!

22. I keep a Sony remote
in my gym bag. All the tv's there are Sony. I got tired of changing the channel off of Fox "News" all the time, so I just used my remote to delete the channel # out of the tv memories. I love watching some rightwing idiot going through channels, and finally giving up.

I never leave Fox on a TV. I always change it, or ask the business to do it if I can't get to the tv myself. If there are menu buttons on the tv, I delete Fox out of it.

30. Does FOX pay for this exposure and "advertising"?
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 10:17 AM by JHB
It occurs to me that by paying outlets to show their channel, they can guarantee so many additional "eyeballs" (many more than they'd get from cable subscribers alone) for advertisers, so they can charge more and come out ahead moneywise.

"We'll set up all these nifty plasma TVs, provide the feed, pay you for us to do it, and all you have to do is give us a call if they stop working."

In fact, I wonder what part of Fox's ratings come from this sort of "involuntary viewing".

They have 8 TVs, and both of the "news TVs" are tuned to Fox. They even offered a member survey, and I added my own comments after checking my box for CNN, but apparently there weren't enough of us to make our point. I guess I'm getting the last laugh when I move out of this crappy town once I sell my house, and move to a very blue metro area some 30 miles away!

Hey funny story 2 years to the day on anniversary of 911 I'm in the Y working out, Fox news in on of course. Nobody was around but the lady watching Fox. They show stock footage of the planes hitting the WTC 2 years ago.

I travel a great deal and it always amazed me to walk through an airport and see Fox on TV's. Many hotels I've stayed in have lobby bar TV's with Fox channel on. I just don't understand it. At first - after 9/11 - I thought conspiracy - when I'd see it on in airports.
