George W. Bush has raised lying to an art form. |
|
There's an old saying that goes, "Never steal anything small." In other words, if you're going to have a rap sheet for stealing a shirt, what the hell. Go all the way and try for Fort Knox.
The lesson that King George has evidently learned from this is "Never tell the truth." Every president has told lies, but none on the scale of this man. Chances are the only time he tells the truth is when he pushes away from the table and says, "I gotta' take a dump."
He's set a standard that it will be hard for any future president to match. Or worse yet, he's set the base line for what a president can get away with.
Michael Douglas has a great line in the film "The American President." He says, "... being president is totally about character." When 2008 rolls around, every single American of voting age must familiarize themselves with the character of the men or women running.
We can't again afford to have a hollow shell of a human being as president, lying to us every single time his or her lips move. Fool me once ...

Bush's lies are like a Campbell's soup can, repeated over and over and over again, just in different colors.
But somehow, W got WAY MORE than his allotted fifteen minutes.

4. what surprises me is how much we are letting POPPY get away with. |
|
he knew his son is a liar, a cheat, a thief and yet he dumped him on is because POPPY too is a liar, a cheat and a thief and no one is calling POPPY on it.

13. And that was far from a love match.... |
|
Poppy married her for her money and her old man's power. Gossip around D.C. is that Poppy has had a series of mistresses throughout their married life. There was one long term affair (through his Presidency) that was carried on with a woman who was also married to another prominent person in Washington. I don't know who it was, but it was told to me by someone related to a member of Congress. Seemed like a credible source to me. Apparently it was very common knowledge among Washington insiders.

23. yes, and one MARY TILLOTSON once asked him about rumors about that |
|
during his run-up (campaign) to the presidency against Clinton/Gore in 1992. The press core was standing right in front of POPPY'S (the Walkers) vacation home in kennebunkport, when Mary Tillotson asked him about those rumors and he said in the most throw up voice that he could muster that he was not going to honor such a SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAZEEEE question with an answer. Shortly thereafter Mary Tillotson disappeared from the CNN radar (and from any other tv. screen that my eyes have ever looked at--i don't think she was suicided but i think he snuffed out the oxygen in her career).

26. Yes, I remember that now... |

rumors were running rampant at one time, supposedly some major news organizations were sitting on the story, at any rate the rumors were conveniently, quickly and summarily snuffed out.

She seemed intelligent and classy. At some point they must have decided to get rid of the mature, intelligent anchors and put in the young , not-so-bright ones. Of course they kept Blitzer, but to me, he acts not very bright at all, he just sits there like a lump and never asks a pertinent question.
On edit: not that I watch any of that cable "news" trash any more.

6. I would make one modification |
|
Not an art form, which would require some conscious effort on his part. It's more like he has habituated himself to it until it is as automatic as breathing.
He has raised it to the level of a mental illness personally, and to a mass delusion at the political level.

19. Lying only works with a willing partner. You need a recipient of the lie |
|
to have a naive suspension of disbelief where both the lie is accepted wholesale and the liar is someone whom the recipient would never accept as someone who would lie to them. It's an abuse of faith and trust.
Therefore if * lies in the future, it would be a good thing if less people were to swallow his hubris.

"Lying is an accursed vice. It is only our words which bind us together and make us human. If we realized the horror and weight of lying, we would see that it is more worthy of the stake than other crimes...once let the tongue acquire the habit of lying and it is astonishing how impossible it is to make it give it up" - Montaigne from pg 71 of Gore Vidal's 'Dreaming War, blood for oil...etc'
