Two more Gold Star moms speak out against the illegal Iraq war

Two "Gold Star" mothers whose sons died in the Iraq spoke out against the war and urged others to do the same at a presentation on Saturday at the Rodriguez Annex to the Jefferson County Library. (Madras, Oregon - town of around 5,000 population in an interior red county in the blue state of Oregon)

"Our troops are necessary and people should be proud to be in the military. But they have taken an oath to protect us -- not the world -- us," said Portland (Oregon) resident Lynn Bradach, whose son Travis Bradach-Nall, a Marine, was killed by a land mine on July 2, 2003.

Travis was due to return home, but volunteered to stay in Iraq three more months because he wouldn't leave without his buddies. When the Marines notified her of his death, everything changed.

Deciding she had to take a stand, she traveled to Crawford to protest with Sheehan, and that was where she met Michelle DeFord, also from Portland. DeFord's son, Oregon National Guard Sgt. David Johnson, was killed in Baghdad on Sept. 25, 2004.

"People tell us we're preaching to the choir," DeFord said, noting that most of those who turn out for their talks are already against the war. "But I figure if we preach to the choir long enough, maybe they'll go out and start singing!" she added, urging people to take action.

These women are my heroes! The library is wonderful for inviting them. This same library provided free showings of Fahrenheit 911 too! Not everyone in backwoods America are backwords thinking! The tide is turning! Strap on your life vest, it's gonna be a fun ride!
