The HUMAN COSTS of Bombing Iran-Over A Million Will Die!!!!!
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 01:34 PM by dogday
George Bush didn’t exactly deny Seymour Hersh’s report in The New Yorker that the Administration is considering using tactical nuclear weapons against Iran.

Neither did Scott McClellan.

Bush called it “wild speculation,” and McClellan said the United States would go ahead with "normal military contingency planning."

Those are hardly categorical denials.

So let’s look at what the human costs of dropping a tactical nuclear weapon on Iran might entail.

<snip>

“The number of deaths could exceed a million, and the number of people with increased cancer risks could exceed 10 million,” according to a backgrounder by the Union of Concerned Scientists from May 2005.

7. And another 35 million in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India would be
exposed to radiation amounts to increase cancer risks. Wonder how this will square with them?

Millions dead, millions more exposed to radiation, and these madmen consider this ok?

14. You would think Pakistan, India and Afghanistan
would be speaking up about this, but then again maybe they won't...

8. "Leylee's Nana lives there..."
My daughter had a friend in Kindergarten last year. I didn't get to know her or her family that well, as my daughter only went to the school for one year, but the little girl, Leylee, was sweet and a great artist. We went to a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese for a mutual friend, and I finally got a chance to talk to Leylee's mother.

We quickly found out that both our families were recent newcomers to the local area. We talked about how we both lived so far away from our families, how freakin' expensive it was to fly back home to visit, and then I found out she was originally from Iran. I asked her a few questions about how she felt about the war in Iraq. We were both against the war, she was definitely worried that the war could 'spread', and she was quite worried that it would make traveling back home to see her mother and family harder. And then we both went to drag our kids off the video games to eat their cake.

That's all I can think about now... When I read Hersh's article, when I saw the animation that says millions of people would die with these bunker busters, all I can think is "Leylee's Nana lives there..."

11. Who cares, they're all brown people.... killing brown people is
what we are good at. While the rest of the world pulls ahead of us in science and education we'll still be the champions of bombing brown people... :eyes:

22. Well our non-brown soldiers
are pretty close to Iran. Can they forbid the air from a blast from entering Iraq?

To be fair I don't think they prefer bombing brown people, but the brown people have the oil and since they look different and their culture and religions differ from white americans they figure we'll empathize with them less.

Like New Orleans wasn't about bushites not caring about black people. They don't care about poor people, they just thought they could get away with it more because they were dark. They wouldn't mind poor whites drowning and being abandoned either, they'd just worry it would look bad on TV.

13. No president will DENY the possibility of using Nukes
This isn't a Bushism. This has been a standard part of US policy for decades. No President takes the Nuclear option (against nuclear states) off the table. The option is always available (in public speeches) to maintain it as a deterrent.

Bush not making an absolute denial is not news. If he had made a blanket denial, then THAT would have been news.

And speaking of total nonsense, the LA Times - Bloomberg poll released said that 48% of Americans favor going after Iran if they continue to develop a nuclear bomb.

I got really frustrated and upset at first (I fell for the dizinfo) then I realized it was from

the LA Times -- Owned by the Republican Chicago Tribune and Bloomberg News -- Owned by the Repub Mayor of NYC (* pal).

There's no support for * from the people, the Generals can't sand him, the plan is insane.

GREAT POST.
