CNN has decided to play "Missing White Girl Roulette" again.
No in depth stories on the exploding number of Generals calling on Rummy to resign, but plenty of time for exploring the minute details surrounding the disappearance of a cute little white girl from Possum Trot,KY or some other red state burg.

Come on people, pay attention to what is important!

2. If my sister, mother, friend, daughter was missing...
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 02:23 PM by poleepafrog
...I'd want every bit of press I could get to scream it from the rooftops. I don't begrudge ANYBODY missing (and so often found dead) ONE second of overhyped, overblown, excessive airtime--I hope ANY and everything is used to find them.

4. Natalee Holloway.
If one did not hear about the Natalee Holloway story in the first, oh, four weeks then one must be brain dead.

Overhyped, overblown, excessive airtime at its worst.

Oh, and welcome to DU.

5. The point was not if I'd heard of her or not.
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 02:34 PM by poleepafrog
Of course I did--and I was, and am, glad for every scrap of airtime she got. Would that it would have helped. We are talking about LIVES here. I sure don't begrudge ANY effort that will help find her.

8. She is still getting airtime. Perhaps you haven't noticed.
No duh we're talking lives here.

People tire of hearing about Natalee Holloway day in and day out for months. Months. The constant coverage of her plight takes its toll on people to the point of them being sick of hearing about it.

As an example, Amber Alerts are great tools for publicizing missing children. Amber Alerts are in your face as soon as the criteria for issuing one are met - and that is the way it should be. But an Amber Alert does not go on and on every night for five months on end with some numbskull "news"caster breathlessly announcing "breaking news" on the case. Every night. Breaking news. Every night.

Of course she is, and of course I knew. I don't begrudge one single second of help going to her--or anyone else.

27. At what point does it become *not* helpful to her
and to other unfortunate women who turn up missing to cover her disappearance night after night with breathlessly breaking news?

Don't answer. It isn't a direct question to you.

...had a trial of the individuals responsible, then I don't think the media's helpful aspect has run it's course.

In the nicest possible terms, you should consider growing slightly thicker skin. In every thread I've seen you post on today, you've taken offense.

Stop taking it all so personally. If you choose to feel alienated because you live in a red state, then fine. Feel alienated.

Losing a child in any way is the worst thing one could experience, but I think there is some hypocrisy with regard to the selection on which the media decides to report.

37. The Corporate Whore-In-Chief has been exposed as a traitor !
I expected deceptive and diversional propaganda to go into overdrive.

The uber-rich are making billions with the robber barons in charge of the country.

They will have their propaganda outlets work hard, even if it just keeps them in power a few more months!!

A few months represents a lot of money that can be stolen before patriots regain control of the Nation.

Goebbels was Propaganda 101.
Pravda was Propaganda 201

CNN is Propaganda 401 or higher.

I strongly recommend to everybody "turn it off!"

40. CNN won't change my vote...
I think one of the biggest dangers is surveillance and their ability to act on it. We can't be expected to all turn off our phones and computers too. Another danger is fraudulent voting machines too. At this point it the only stance liberals can take is to no longer expect to be represented in government, but to continue to stand behind their values. Maybe if we can eliminate government surveillance and election fraud we might stand a chance.
