Couric's boyfriend a major Bush supporter & ex-fiance of Laura Ingraham
http://cbs2chicago.com/zwecker/local_blogentry_088092749.html

Surprise, surprise.

There's no question Katie Couric has a lot going on in her life right now. Along with all the hoopla about her expected jump to CBS to anchor the evening news, friends of the longtime "Today" show co-host are gossiping about a new man in Couric's personal life.

Unlike previous beaus involved in the entertainment industry -- TV and sports mogul Tom Carsey and musician Chris Botti -- Couric's latest comes from a different world. He is Washington, D.C., beer distributor Jimmy Reyes, a divorced father of two, a major supporter of President Bush and the former fiance of right-wing radio commentator Laura Ingraham.

A friend of Couric's told the New York Daily News the couple have ''gone out a bunch of times, and she thinks he's a great guy.'' A "Today" source told this column Tuesday that an important attraction for Couric also was Reyes' devotion to his children -- ''plus girls really like him ... and that's super important to Katie,'' known for being a devoted and very hands-on mother of her two daughters.

*As for that much-discussed switch from the Peacock to the Eye, that same "Today" insider confirms reports that show producers are busily digging up tons of old Couric tapes -- for a major tribute to her long service on the program.

8. even worse...
there was some innuendo over at Freak Republic that he had given her the heave-ho after (and because of) her cancer diagnosis... based on something Ingraham had said on her (ugh) 'radio show'.

So, he's (if it's true) a REAL piece-of-shit, not jsut a guy with terrible taste in politics and women.

9. Who cares?
I can't understand all of the folks who get their panties in a bunch about what newsperson is dating or marrying whoever it is they're dating or marrying. Talk about unimportant. Plus, I bear no ill will towards perky Katie. Certainly not enough to get upset about her personal life

11. what makes someone a "major" supporter of chimpy
Reyes is clearly a repub, but according to Opensecrets.org he gave a grand total of $500 to chimpy's campaign in 1999 and another $2k in 2003. He's also given a lot to the National Beer Wholeslers Assoc. PAC, and while that PAC has supported repubs by a 3 to 1 margin, I can't find any record that it contributed to chimpy.

If she was dating someone who'd given 2500 to Democratic presidential candidates over a four year period and some freeper was claiming that proved anything about anything, we'd be laughing at them for being silly.

12. I wrote Today show last Monday with the announcement, saying good riddence
she lost her neutrality in her interviews, friendly soft balls to shrubco minions, antagonistic to any Dems or questioners of asshat.

13. I have no problem with criticizing her
for how she does her job. I just think that making an issue of who she dates is silly. Folks have been complaining about how she does her job from before she started dating this guy.
