New code words for "outsourcing"
Businesses (and now government agencies) are getting very savvy about the public's outrage over outsourcing services to foreign countries. You might see less and less about it in the news because the language about it has changed.

Just by way of example, read this paragraph describing a conference-- which was in large part about outsourcing call centers for public utilities--and see if you come away with an understanding of what he's talking about:

"Customer Service at Utilities Beginning to Move - By Jon T. Brock
Daily IssueAlert

4/14/2006

I recently attended the EEI/AGA Customer Service Conference in Philadelphia and was surprised to witness a very healthy attendance. In a conference that has rarely topped 300 attendees, the 2006 conference was the best attended yet with over 400 attendees gathering to discuss customer service at the utility, approximately half of those being electric and gas utilities. Why the surge in attendance? Several felt that the travel restrictions at utilities are finally beginning to be lifted. I question that as many of UtiliPoint's utility clients still have travel restrictions in place for 2006. I feel that while UtiliPoint research points to a stabilization in interest in the customer information system (CIS) market, many of the deals that have been "in the works" are finally coming to fruition. "

Other code words are "transformation," "service movement," "relocation," "service transmigration," "aging work force solutions" and "packaged customer service solutions."

The outsourcing consultants have brought outsourcing euphemisms to a high art. Check out, for example, "The Federal Environment for Transformation," which, reading between the lines, appears to be all about how governmental offices should consider outsourcing:

I'd be interested in any other code language for "outsourcing" that others have run across.

4. Yeah, now watch the neo-cons using this meme. They are so
stupid.

How about the INSOURCING of immigrant labor? No minimum wage, no benefits....we are moving toward a two-class society, rich ad poor.

The new Banana Republic of America

10. We are already there.
With 37 million Americans living in poverty and millions more not that far from poverty, I'd say we are already there.

And your right I'm sure those words will be used by neo-cons and other slime ball repukes.

12. BTO
Here's another variation on the "Transformation" theme-- the "BTO."

IBM Daksh Opens Three New Business Transformation Outsourcing delivery centres in India

India, December 12, 2005 - IBM Daksh today opened three new Business Transformation Outsourcing (BTO) delivery centres in India, significantly expanding IBM's BTO delivery capability to meet the growing domestic and international demand for BTO services. These centres are located in Pune, Chandigarh and Kolkata with a current seating capacity of 2,100 seats across the three centres.

The centres are part of IBM Daksh's delivery network of 10 centres located in India and IBM's global services delivery network of more than two dozen centres. These centres deliver the scale and expertise necessary to operate and continuously improve a range of business processes to create long-term business value for IBM's BTO clients. IBM's BTO solutions span from straight business process delivery work to high-value transformational outsourcing projects.

The new centers will provide customer care outsourcing services to domestic and international clients utilizing IBM's proven management and technology systems, industry expertise, global delivery excellence and deep understanding of the Indian market.

13. Aging work force?
I think the proper code 'word' for oursourcing is "We're loving raping America while we and our stockholders laugh our way to the bank solutions."

14. "global sourcing," "offshoring"
Who knew it was this great!?!

SPECIAL REPORT -- OUTSOURCING

The Future Of Outsourcing
How it's transforming whole industries and changing the way we work
<TL-- Or the way we DON'T work!>

<snip>

The changes can be harsh and deep. But a more enlightened, strategic view of global sourcing is starting to emerge as managers get a better fix on its potential. The new buzzword is "transformational outsourcing." Many executives are discovering offshoring is really about corporate growth, making better use of skilled U.S. staff, and even job creation in the U.S., not just cheap wages abroad.

True, the labor savings from global sourcing can still be substantial. But it's peanuts compared to the enormous gains in efficiency, productivity, quality, and revenues that can be achieved by fully leveraging offshore talent.
