"[Olympia ]Snowe launches 'formidable' campaign "
BANGOR - She has more than $2 million in the bank and some of the highest approval numbers of anyone on Capitol Hill.

Toppling U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe in her effort to keep her seat isn't expected to be an easy task, experts say, as the Republican launched her 2006 campaign during a statewide tour Thursday.

"Maine people deserve a voice in Washington as resolute and independent and reasonable-minded as Maine people themselves," Snowe told a group of about 50 supporters at Husson College. "I believe I have been that leader for you in the United States Senate."

Snowe, 59, is running for her third term in the Senate. Thursday's kickoff of her re-election campaign also included stops in Portland, Auburn and Presque Isle.

2. A couple of Dems are trying but unfortunately Olympia has a lot of
money to throw into this campaign, and that is so often the deciding factor. :(

6. Are there no flash point issues to take her to task on?
It would seem there would be at least a few things that she would have done which would have aggravated the good folks of Maine.

9. She puts the Senate leadership in the hands of the Republicans
Is there anything WORSE she could do to the people of Maine and the rest of America? Think about it Maine, you could hand control of the U.S. Senate over to the Democrats and take it away from the party of George W. Bush and Jack Abramoff.

3. For someone so" independent and resolute" she seems to
have gone along with the Bushco crowd quite a bit....

7. Of all possible Republicans, I suppose Senator Snowe is way
preferable to Jeff Sessions, Orrin Hatch, Tom Coburn, John Cornyn, Kay Baily Hutchison, Saxby Chambliss, etc.

8. Senator Snowe is full of bullshit
She claims to be some sort of moderate, but when it comes to deciding the leadership in the U.S. Senate, the fact that she's a Republican is what gives us leaders like Dr. Fristenstein instead of people like Daschle, Reid, Feingold or whomever. Olympia, you're NOT a moderate when your election puts leadership into the hands of the failed zealots that make up today's Republican party.
Don't lie to the people of Maine anymore, Senator. Campaign with Bill Frist at your side, or Trent Lott. Perhaps Tom DeLay or Newt Gingrich? George W. Bush? After all, that's EXACTLY what your election foists upon the American people.
