Premier refuses to concede defeat

Prodi says his victory confirmed by disputed ballot figures

(ANSA) - Rome, April 14 - Premier Silvio Berlusconi refused to concede defeat on Friday despite new Interior Ministry data showing that the number of disputed election ballots would be insufficient to overturn the victory of centre-left leader Romano Prodi .

"Which ever way the official counts of the election result go and whoever receives the substantial seat bonus in the House, nothing changes: we are dealing with a stalemate and a situation in which, at least on the basis of the popular vote, there are neither winners or losers," the premier said in a letter to Corriere della Sera, Italy's biggest daily .

Berlusconi said it was necessary to "study new solutions together", adding that "a partial, short-term pact in order to deal with the country's immediate institutional, economic and international commitments should not be excluded" .

"If instead an extremist line prevails, it's obvious that Forza Italia (Berlusconi's party) and its allies will wage a consistent and tough battle in defence of the values and interests entrusted to them by 50% of voters," he said .

5. "Whichever way the official count goes..."

Old Silvie ain't gonna believe it.

And he want to set up a "short-term" pact with Prodi's party. Any guesses who he has in mind to be the leader of that pact?

As I posted last night, Prodi's party are in for a horribly rough ride. Burlesque-oni's pet media will crucify them every minute they're in power.

6. It's really maddening when you use electronic voting machines
and you just don't program in enough votes to win.

All that money and no pay-off.
