Remember Artex, in "The Neverending Story"?
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 10:22 PM by BullGooseLoony
Don't be Artex.

Fight against the sadness.

A luck dragon is coming.

Keep fighting.

1. I am totally down with the Luck Dragon!
Does that mean we're up against... The Nothing?

4. No, Artex. His horse.
Atreyu kept fighting.

He fought the Swamps of Sadness, and was saved- by Falcor, the Luck Dragon.

Artex, his horse- and this is one of the saddest scenes I've ever seen in a movie- gave up, and succombed to the swamp.

6. It's Artax, but yes, it's his horse.

In the book (which I wish EVERYONE WOULD READ, it is NOT a children's book) Artax can talk. And there's half the book after Bastian comes to Fantastica (SP correct for the book) and it's nothing like the sequels that I try very hard to pretend do not exist.

And I can see the glinting gleam in the clouds right now. (smile) Thank you for this post.

EDIT: Sorry to be a spelling Nazi, but proper names are, important. Pretty sure it's Falkor, too--the book was originally in German. And it is well worth the extra few bucks to get the version printed in green-and-red. : ) It's even copper-colored under the dust jacket.

Oddly this book and the movie have come up in MANY conversations for me, online and off, the last few days. Lots of things seem to do that. Group mind? Intelligence wave theory? Someone I love once said to me that the gods talk to us through our friends, through art, through even the next song on the radio. I don't believe that for a second--and I know it is absolutely true. : )

I am so glad I'm not the only person around that has a beloved soft spot in his heart for this story.

7. It's one of the most touching scenes with regard to humanity

I've ever seen.

Life is HARD. But you have to keep pushing forward.

And, if you do, things will- EVENTUALLY- work out. There is so much in that movie, and I'm sure the book, as well, that is so true.

There is always hope. We just need the strength to keep moving in that direction.

I quoted the Rolling Stones, earlier- If you try sometimes, you'll get what you need.

But, I like another quote, as well: You can piss a hole through a rock, if you try hard enough.

8. Someone I love once said to me that the gods talk to us through our friend
and sometimes through strangers! Somebody I love very much calls me "puppy dragon" (my chinese sign is dragon) and your post reminded me of her, which is awesome. I was just feeling down due to a story I just read here, but I think of her I always know somehow that things will be alright. Thanks! :)

9. Good, because Artex is a ceiling covering in the UK
http://www.artexing.co.uk/

And I'd hate to think "The Neverending Story" was about DIY ... :-)
